Meaning & History
Means "star" in Sanskrit. Tara is the name of a Hindu astral goddess, the wife of Brhaspati. She was abducted by Soma, a god of the moon, leading to a great war that was only ended when Brahma intervened and released her. This is also the name of a Buddhist deity (a female Buddha).A star is called Tara (????), Sitara (??????), or Taraka (?????) in Hindi. The last of these, Taraka (?????), is the preferred term in Sanskrit.

Kalighat Kali Temple is a Hindu temple in Kalighat, Kolkata, West Bengal, India dedicated to the Hindu goddess Kali. It is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas. Kalighat was a Ghat (landing stage) sacred to Kali on the old course (Adi Ganga) of the Hooghly river (Bhāgirathi) in the city of Kolkata.

- By road - One has to travel along the Panagarh Morgram expressway. If one is travelling from Siuri, then one has to turn right just before entering Rampurhat and travel around 11 km to reach Tarapith.
- By rail - the nearest station is Rampurhat, Burdhawan, Asansol.

There are no bus routes from other major cities to Tarapith. Nearest bus stand is Panagarh. In the state of West Bengal,Tarapith is a must visit place. You can easily get regular trains to Tarapith from other major cities of the country.
