While the movie poster and marketing aspect of graphic design is probably the most visible aspect of the trade, what most people don't realize is that graphic design influences film in a much more intimate way. A poster is an original if it was printed in the first printing run. Later official reprints may also have some value, but typically they are significantly less worth than the original poster. Reproductions of a poster have no monetary value. However, a very rare poster may achieve a high price even in poor condition.

Vintage posters are a collectible art form that is available to almost everyone. Values vary but even very rare or collectible posters can be found in the $400.00 to $2,000.00 range. A poster is considered vintage if it is at least twenty-five years old and is an original advertising print.
Original posters are printed on acidic paper and have “tanned” to some extent over time due to natural “acid tanning.” By contrast, digital reproductions are printed on “minty white” new paper. The older the poster, the more tanning is apparent.

Video posters are NOT "Original Movie Posters". The video poster is issued to advertise the movie's release on videotape or dvd, not during the film's original theatrical release. They are often referred to as Original Video Posters and usually have very little value.
