At Samford, 3.4 out of every 5 students self-identified as conservative, and 3.5 out of every 5 believed the campus as a whole leaned more to the right.
On one side of the spectrum is Texas A&M (conservative), and on the other side is the University of Texas at Austin (liberal). The Aggies are by far the largest right-leaning school in the country (and simply one of the largest schools in the country).
That said, Liberty isn't a bad school. I wouldn't discourage Christian high school students from visiting or applying to the university if that's what they want. It's pretty affordable, full of major options and activities, and provides a reasonably good education.
Students that attend The University of Oklahoma typically come from a conservative, wealthy background; however, others are very liberal, there is approximately a 50% division.
Many Ole Miss students come from families that are well-off financially. The school is predominantly conservative, but there are a few of us liberals hiding around. No matter what ethnic, racial, financial or social background you are from, you will find a place at Ole Miss.

Stanford is often perceived as a bastion of liberalism, full of left-leaning students, student protests, and activist movements; indeed, the university is famously characterised as a “liberal bubble”, politically far to the left of the rest of the US.

Although Vandy tends to be more conservative, it is not a predominantly conservative student body.
The College. The College brings together perspectives from many liberal arts fields to analyze issues, pose questions and train students to think and write creatively as well as critically.
AU is a very liberal arts-based university and is incredibly focused upon writing abilities.
American UniversityThough the school's population is relatively small and has fewer parties when compared to state schools, many students assert it's worth it to be in DC. Welcome Week is probably the most fun for nightlife around campus. There are open fraternity parties every night to take advantage of.
The worst thing about American University is the lack of grass and field space to spend leisure time and for teams to practice. Some teams have to practice on a painful field hockey turf field and there is only one quadrangle on the campus for students to spend their time. The worst thing is the constant construction.

The average age range of students living on campus is 18-21 and the entire AU campus is dry (no alcohol is allowed anywhere on campus). Students age 21 and older often prefer to live off-campus. Off-campus housing is available in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
I think they can be explained in four main ways: bureaucratic bloat, the athletic emphasis on campus, massively expensive and unnecessary luxury perks the university creates to attract paying students, and lastly, the loss of public subsidization of higher education.
