Human is the best Classic WoW Alliance Rogue race for PvE. Gnome or Dwarf is the best Classic WoW Alliance Rogue race For PvP.
Rogues are very very strong in BFA. Here's my suggestion to you: start with outlaw and spec into slice and dice. That's why you spec slice and dice because it replaces roll the bones which requires a good weak auras interface and know which buffs to use. A slice and dice rogue is great.
IMHO rogues are perfect for soloing content just because they can control what they want to deal with. Rogue is one of the easiest solo classes, imo. For leveling I strongly recommend Subtlety for the high survivability and ability to teleport attack from stealth, but once you hit 120 switch it to Assassin or Outlaw.
5 best Rogue Company characters to play in ranked
- HiRez Studios/First Watch Games Saint is the backbone of the best-ranked team comps.
- HiRez Studios/First Watch Games Talon's Radar Dart provides game-changing info on enemy locations.
- HiRez Studios/First Watch Games Chaac proves that you play solo and still be effective in ranked.
All recent researches say that the best DPS classes for the Shadowlands are: Warlocks, Hunters, Death Knights (DK), and Rogues. All these classes have certain advantages with different amount of aims. They are most effective in Raids, Mythics, and in PvP.
Outlaw is the best AoE spec by a mile and a half for rogue, and it also has the best sustain damage. As you say, it can be a little reliant on RNG for good buffs, but it has a greater variety of viable traits than the other specs, at least from my experience, so there's a little more freedom in armour picks.
It is not particularly difficult compared to any other class - keep your dots up, spam your filler rotation, use defensives, etc. With M+ and Mythic Raids you're not really gated by class mechanics, you're instead gated by your own awareness of the fight mechanics of the instance itself.
Subtlety is a spec that feels like it becomes complete while leveling in Shadowlands. The whole of reliable AoE damage has finally been filled, and poises the spec to be much more reliable in Mythic Plus! Black Powder comes right away at level 52, and gives Subtlety an AoE finishing move!
The Marksmanship Hunter and Shadow Priest still take top spots in terms of DPS rankings for WoW: Shadowlands' Season 1. Balance Druid is now also considered a top-ranking class in World of Warcraft, which is a slight change from the pre-patch.
DPS Rankings
- Fire Mage. 119K (100%)
- Destruction Warlock. 108K (91%)
- Arms Warrior. 108K (91%)
- Shadow Priest. 105K (88%)
- Beast Mastery Hunter. 105K (88%)
- Affliction Warlock. 103K (87%)
- Demonology Warlock. 99K (83%)
- Frost Death Knight. 97K (82%)
Engineering and Mining. Engineering is arguably the best (and most fun) profession for a rogue (with Mining being the most beneficial complementary profession).
Best Horde Races for Assassination Rogues
Depending on the class you choose one of two of the Best Races are most likely going to be the best fit for you, Dwarfs are strong PVP Melee Classes, while Gnomes are great as any Caster Class such as Priest, Mages and Warlocks. Orcs are good for Hunters and Warriors, while Undead make amazing Priest and Mages.
When all things are considered, the race you choose won't make a great deal of difference. If you're a casual player, picking your favorite race should be your priority. If you're more of a serious player, though, and you care about min-maxing, race really does matter.
Hit RatingPrecision. Mobs and players at Level 60 will have a defense skill of 300, meaning that, in order to never miss your abilities as a Rogue, you will need 300 Weapon Skill and 5% Hit Rating.

Rogues make their own poisons using a Poisons skill. Poison ingredients are purchased at Shady Dealers or reagent vendors, found in junkboxes obtained through pickpocketing, or gathered with herbalism. Once you have the Poisons skill, you have to level it like a profession.
Rogues can only wear leather or cloth armor, are unable to use shields, and can only wield one-handed weapons (daggers, swords, maces, fist weapons) and ranged weapons.
Instead, the ability to hide helms and cloaks has been moved to Transmogrifiers. You'll need to find one in a city and have them set your items to hidden. They can even hide your shoulder piece.
Rogues can use daggers, fist weapons, one-handed axes, maces, and swords. Outlaw rogues require a slow one-handed weapon in their main hand in order to use some abilities.
Relative to other specs, it is an advanced spec to play in PvP. Subtlety has a playstyle that is both very proactive and reactive. While there are no set rotations for any spec in PvP, this is especially true for Subtlety Rogues.
We're not as good in raids as DH, but we're generally good enough to get a raid spot if you're a solid player. The issue always tends to be that there are limited melee DPS spots, especially with how strong BM, Destruction, and Fire currently is. We're much stronger in 5 man content, PvP, and solo content (visions).
Outlaw Rogue Strengths in PvPThis is useful offensively to execute long control chains and defensively to help your teammates survive. There are unique and excellent talents for PvP in the Outlaw tree: Blinding Powder makes Blind long range and the cooldown shorter by 30 seconds.
You can play it but it's just not super viable. It's toolkit is just not designed for pvp. If you're not looking to push hard in arena I think Outlaw would be fine for BG and wPvP shenanigans. Sub right now in PVP will be infinitely more enjoyable for you.
It is worth noting that the additional combo points from Shrouded Suffocation, the energy gain from Nothing Personal, as well as the Envenom duration extension from Twist the Knife do not stack with multiple copies of the trait.
Echoing Blades: Is extremely useful for M+ and should be stacked if you plan on doing that sort of content regularly, bosses like Opulence are also an encounter where triple Echoing Blades can work, but Battle of Dazar'alor doesn't really have many AoE fights like that.
