New South Wales (NSW) is Australia's oldest and most-populous state. New South Wales was originally settled as a penal colony on the shores of Port Jackson where the bustling capital city of Sydney now stands.
History. Cape York was named by Lieutenant James Cook on his first voyage of exploration along the eastern coast of Australia in 1770. He named it on 21 August 1770 "in honour of His Royal Highness, the Duke of York" referring to Prince Edward, Duke of York and Albany.
Personal life. Negus lives in Bellingen. His children were raised on a farm near Bellingen on the New South Wales northern coast, where he lived for 15 years with his wife, Kirsty Cockburn, herself a journalist and a collaborator on many of Negus's projects.
Far North Queensland (FNQ) is
the northernmost part of the Australian state of Queensland. Its largest city is Cairns and it is dominated geographically by Cape York Peninsula, which stretches north to the Torres Strait, and west to the Gulf Country.

People petitioned to separate, and in 1859 Queen Victoria granted them their own colony. As the name perfectly suggests, they named it Queensland to honour Queen Victoria.

CAIRNS has been accused of fudging figures from the 2011 census in a desperate attempt to show its population is larger than Townsville's. This OESR brief reports the Cairns SA4 population at 224,436 and the Townsville SA4 population at 217,897 on Census night in 2011.
Brisbane is the largest city in both the South East Queensland region and the state of Queensland.
In its news coverage, the national Australian Broadcasting Corporation consistently describes Mackay as being in North Queensland and its local radio station is called ABC Tropical North. More generally, the area is known as the Mackay–Whitsunday Region.
The northernmost part of the state, Far North Queensland is a tropical region stretching from Cairns to the Torres Strait.
Rockhampton is a city in the Rockhampton Region of Central Queensland, Australia. Today, Rockhampton is an industrial and agricultural centre of the north, and is the regional centre of Central Queensland.
As recently as 1980, Perth was a smaller city than Adelaide, but it now has a population more than 500,000 higher (43% higher).

The City of Mount Isa is a
local government area in north west Queensland. The City covers the urban locality of Mount Isa, the administrative centre, and surrounding area, sharing a boundary with the Northern Territory to the west. Mount Isa is a reasonably affluent district.
Population.
In the 2016 Census, there were 32,588 people in Mount Isa (State Electoral Divisions). Of these 52.1% were male and 47.9% were female. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people made up 23.4% of the population.
Mount Isa Mines operates two separate mining and processing streams, copper and zinc-lead-silver, near Mount Isa, Queensland, Australia.
However, Gordon Sheldon in his book 'Industrial Siege' claimed Cam Miles (as John Campbell Miles was known to family and immediate friends) staked his claim and called the craggy hill 'Mount Isa', after the Wester Australian gold mine 'Mount Ida'.
Mount Isa began as a mining town, following the discovery of substantial deposits of lead in 1923. It is now one of the world's top ten producers of copper, silver, lead and zinc. Development has kept pace as prosperity increased. Apart from mining, the gulf region's major industry is beef cattle grazing.

In June 2018 the area had a population of 194,072, and is the 28th-largest LGA in Australia. Townsville is considered to be the unofficial capital of North Queensland.
Port Douglas is a coastal town and locality in the Shire of Douglas, Queensland,
approximately 60 km north of Cairns. In the 2016 census, Port Douglas had a population of 3,504 people.

The Tropical North Queensland region is a large area that extends from Mission Beach/Tully in the south to Cape York and the Torres Strait in the north and Gulf Savannah in the west.
Cape York, northernmost point of the Australian continent, comprising the northern tip of Cape York Peninsula, in the state of Queensland. The cape juts north-northeast from the peninsula into Torres Strait, which separates it from the island of New Guinea.
