Leupold riflescopes are all designed, machined, and assembled in our Beaverton Oregon manufacturing facility. So if you come across a Leupold riflescope being shipped into the United States from China, it is a very likely a counterfeit.
Word is that Bushnell bought out weaver and is discontinuing all the weaver scopes. If you try to send in a scope for repair, they do not service them anymore and you will only be offered a comparable bushnell.
Beretta Holdings, through its Burris division, has acquired Germany's Steiner-Optik GmbH. Steiner, a respected maker of optics, particularly binoculars, is based in Bayreuth, Germany, and now employs 120 workers.

Back to the original subject, Bushnell is a US company started by an ex US serviceman in Japan after WW2. At one stage all their optics were made in Japan but now only their preimier lines are made there, the rest made in China and Taiwan but with high level Bushnell QC.
Both the new Weaver and Simmons scopes are very good scopes for the price. I wouldn't hesitate to buy either for your intended use. I'm told that the early Japanese Simmons Prohunter was a pretty good scope. From first hand experience it's still surprisingly good for a Chinese scope.
BUSHNELL — Kitchen Cooked Chips is planning to close its Bushnell facility after more than 40 years in the city. According to Paul Blackhurst, a representative at Kitchen Cooked, the closure is part of an acquisition by Utz Quality Foods, a large, independent snack food brand based in Pennsylvania.
First, its important to clarify that Nikon is not out of business as a company. They just decided to get out of the rifle scope market.
The AXIS XP comes with a factory-mounted and boresighted Weaver 3-9x40mm scope that extracts maximum accuracy from the rifle's 22-inch button-rifled barrel.
Leupold may have a slight advantage with the quality of their scopes' build, while Vortex has the price advantage. Both brands have excellent reputations, even with Vortex's relative lack of experience. Ultimately, if you're in the market for a scope, your choice will probably come down to personal preference.
Unfortunately, the only current Vortex scope model that is made in America is their top of the line Razer HD AMG scope, which runs around $2000.
Are Bushnell scopes made in the USA? Currently, none of the Bushnell lines of riflescopes are manufactured in the USA. Some are made in China, some are sourced from South Korea, and their top tier scopes come from Japan.

A number of vendors in Japan manufacture optics components for all major Vortex products, including Vortex Golden Eagle HD, Razor HD, Razor HD LH, Razor HD Gen III and Razor HD Gen II-E riflescopes. Japanese factories also manufacture the lenses and other glass internals for the Vortex Razor HD AMG riflescope.
Chinese factories are capable of making good quality rifle scopes that hold up to heavy recoil. Hawke Sidewinder scopes are a good example. Optics companies source optics from multiple Chinese factories. Good quality on one model line doesn't guarantee good quality on another line.
For instance, the Bushnell Legend ultra hd is a fine scope w/ED glass made in China. The glass and scope mechanicals are excellent. Also, the Pentax Gameseeker is made in China. I purchased a Gameseeker 30 85-32X50 which is also an excellent scope again w/pretty nice optics.
The new Conquest HD scopes are made in Germany.
