The Pixel 4A (9/10, WIRED Recommends) is our favorite Android phone at the moment.
The Pixel 5 isn't a bad phone, as it has the best cameras of 2020 so far and good battery life, but you'd still be overpaying if you bought the Pixel 5 at $700. I'd suggest you look at the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, or the OnePlus 8T instead.
Google Pixel 5 at a glanceThis is Google's top-end phone of 2020 and it's a great option if you want: A more affordable 5G phone with some flagship-level features. A great camera experience. A smaller-than-typical size.
So let's see how the tariffs might have affected Google's smartphone business. Google designs the latest Pixel and has the phone manufactured in China. According to the Nikkei Asian Review, Google is set to start production of the mid-range Pixel 4a in Vietnam beginning this April.
Google has discontinued the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL, its flagship phones that were released in October of last year. Just like all Pixel devices, Pixel 4 will continue to get software and security updates for at least three years from when the device first became available on the Google Store in the US.”
A fantastic smartphone cameraWith a 12.3-megapixel rear camera, the Google Pixel can capture high-quality photos in both bright and poorly-lit environments. For selfie enthusiasts, Google's smartphone also sports an 8-megapixel front camera, which is much more powerful than the iPhone 7's.
Because Google did not want to cannibalize a product it had just announced, the company shifted its naming scheme again. The "standard" Pixel 5 became the Pixel 4a 5G in an effort to keep the $350 Pixel 4a relevant, leaving the Pixel 5s to drop the "s" and be the only option in the Pixel 5 lineup.
And while the Pixel has an OLED display with a higher resolution, the iPhone has a faster refresh rate and Apple's True Tone color technology.
The Google Pixel 5 comes at a starting price of $699. Unfortunately this year we are not getting a bigger Pixel 5 XL, but Google has also announced the budget-friendly 5G device, the Google Pixel 4a 5G.
The Pixel 4 only comes with 6GB of RAM, when similarly priced phones from Samsung or much cheaper phones from OnePlus have 8GB or 12GB of RAM. The Pixel 4, which is supposed to be a great camera phone, is actually a bad video camera as a result. It supports 4K, 30FPS video, but not 4K 60FPS.
There is no “Google phones” at all. Google is selling their Pixel series which are made in China and/or South Korea (they change the manufacturer - LG made them, Motorola made them, HTC made them), but ultimately every single smartphone we have in the market is at least partly (probably more than half) made in China.

Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL are Android smartphones from the Google Pixel product line, serving as successors to the Pixel 3. The phones were officially announced on October 15, 2019 and released in the United States on October 24, 2019. They were discontinued in August 2020.
The Pixel 5 is constructed using a "100% recycled aluminum enclosure" and Gorilla Glass 6 for the screen. The device is available in Just Black and Sorta Sage colors, both of which have a matte finish. The housing has a thick coating of plastic, while the power button is anodized with a metallic finish.
