Signs of being filled with the holy spirit is the evidence of speaking in tongues. After salvation, a believer can be baptized in the Holy Spirit and they will speak in tongues. “And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.â€
To receive the Holy Spirit is when you trust God with your heart and believe that God sent his son to die in your place as a sacrifice for your sins. The Holy Spirit abides in you when you put that trust in God.
The first request is to ask the Holy Spirit to come to you. You must believe there is a Holy Spirit and be willing and open to accept the spirit into your heart. This is the same Holy Spirit who Jesus told his disciples would be with them always after his crucifixion.
It is the Holy Spirit's job to produce Christ-like character in you. This process of changing us to be more like Jesus is called sanctification. You can't reproduce the character of Jesus on your own or by your own strength. Only the Holy Spirit has the power to make the changes God wants to make in our lives.
But one of the greatest promises to the Church is, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you†(Acts 1:8). This is referring to the Promise of the Father, which is the baptism in the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit enables Christian life by dwelling in the individual believers and enables them to live a righteous and faithful life. The Holy Spirit also acts as comforter or Paraclete, one who intercedes, or supports or acts as an advocate, particularly in times of trial.
In the New Testament, the divine Spirit of God, the Holy Ghost, becomes more personal.
Romans 11:34 confirms this, saying, “Who has known the mind of the LORD ? Or who has been his counselor? †1 Corinthians 2:11 says, “ For who knows a person's thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God . â€
Acts 19:2 (KJV)2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. As you can see they had not even heard of the Holy Ghost at that time.
The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit are wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord.
Jesus summed it up in one verse, John 14:6 – “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father except through me.†All of man's questions of life are answered in this verse.
Truth is in fact a verified or indisputable fact. We just believe as Christians the facts are laid out in the Bible. We believe every answer to life and the truth on any topic is laid out in the Bible. Jesus was saying to us it is an indisputable fact that I am the Son of God.
Mercy triumphs over judgment! What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. But someone will say, "You have faith; I have deeds." Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the trinity. God the father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit make up the trinity. The Holy Spirit enables us to remain faithful to Christ. We need the Holy Spirit because it guides us to all truth.
