Pacaya has a somewhat bitter taste, although less so in cultivated varieties. It is eaten in salads (especially fiambre, a salad traditionally eaten in Guatemala on the Day of the Dead) or covered in egg batter and fried.

Cumbre Vieja eruption began in September 2021 as a flank eruption at the Cumbre Vieja volcanic ridge comprising the southern half of the Spanish island of La Palma in the Canary Islands.

A new eruption at Kīlauea's summit began at approximately 3:20 p.m. HST on September 29, 2021. Lava activity is currently confined within Halema'uma'u crater. Gas emissions and seismic activity at the summit remain elevated.

Guatemala's Fuego volcano on Friday has quieted after a 32-hour long eruption, authorities said Friday. The volcano, located some 35 kilometers (22 miles) southwest of the capital Guatemala City, began spewing lava and ash high into the sky on Thursday.
The earliest known eruptions of Arenal began around 7,000 years ago, breaking through older volcanic tuffs and sedimentary rocks. Plinian eruptions occurred about every 1,000 years, interspersed with lava flow and pyroclastic activity and periods of quiescence, and built Arenal into a classic stratovolcano.
