One of the heroes of Genesee County, William M.Fenton was born in Norwich, NY in 1808. In 1835, he settled in Pontiac, MI with his wife Adelaide and friend, Robert LeRoy, where he opened a mercantile business. In 1837, he moved to Genesee County, where he and LeRoy platted and named Fenton.
