It is situated near to the city centre, on the Southside of Dublin city. Neighbouring areas include Walkinstown, Perrystown, Drimnagh, Terenure, and Kimmage. Crumlin is contained within postal district Dublin 12.
It's a largely quiet, suburban residential area where many of the original homeowners from the housing boom of the 1960s and 1970s are still living. Local amenities are good as are transport links – it is neatly positioned between the city and the M50.

It's important to know tallaght is a big area with some very rough estates and some quiet areas. Historically there were a lot of complaints about the lack of facilities and people from the inner city feeling they had been shipped out to public housing in the middle of nowhere, but the area has matured.
The Walkinstown Roundabout is famed by drivers all around Dublin for being one of the worst roundabouts in the county. Notorious for its tough driving atmosphere, it's dreaded by both experienced and learner drivers due to its fast movement and access to six busy South Dublin roads.
When speaking in general, Dublin is a very safe city. Certain petty crimes are possible, such as muggings, and robberies, which have been known to occur in Dublin. Be very careful while in Grafton Street, which is a place frequently visited by tourists and pickpockets as well.
Tallaght has been absolutely slated on the Irish Reddits for years, and I think it's a bit of an exaggeration to say the least. No question there's more crime there, but it's more complicated than "criminals live here, victims live there".
