Correct postal address:Number or name of house and the name of the street, road, etc. In rural areas the name of the locality or townland should be shown. Post Town. For Dublin addresses the postal district number, where applicable, should always be shown.
Last Christmas posting dates for 2020This year, the last day for posting a 2nd Class delivery in the UK is Friday 18th December. For first class mail in the UK, it's Monday 21st December.

Do couriers and postal services deliver on Boxing Day? Boxing Day is considered a national holiday in the UK and several European countries. As a general rule, in such locations, both postal and courier services do not perform parcel collection or deliveries on Boxing Day.
When else will Royal Mail not deliver? Aside from Sundays, the Royal Mail will also not deliver post on most public holidays. This means that the days of Christmas, New Years Eve/Day, and Boxing Day are obviously days taken off by postal workers.

The U.S. Postal Service does deliver mail on Christmas Eve, December 24. The exception to this delivery schedule is if Christmas Eve falls on a Sunday; because there is no mail on Sundays anyway, then there wouldn't be Christmas Eve service then, either.

Do Royal Mail charge more to send post to Northern Ireland? No, it is helpful to know that Royal Mail postage costs from mainland UK to Northern Ireland (and vice versa) are the same prices as if you were to send letters or a parcel elsewhere in the UK.

By writing FREEPOST where the stamp would normally be affixed, An Post will carry cards, letters large envelopes and packets weighing up to 2KG without a postage stamp. Customers can send these items through the Post Office network and post boxes across Ireland.
Under something called the inland letter post scheme, you are allowed to forward a letter free of charge within 24 hours of receiving it. But whenever you forward a letter (and even if you do it within 24 hours) it won't get priority. It is quite likely to take 10 days or so to reach its new destination.
The Postal Services Act 2000 clearly states that it is certainly illegal to open someone's post, or delay it reaching the owner. Although throwing it away may not be the same as peeking, most people (and more importantly, lawyers) could argue that binning the mail "delays" the post indefinitely, which is a crime.
