Jordan is a conservative society. You should dress modestly and behave courteously. It's illegal to drink alcohol on the street but permissible in bars, clubs, hotels and private homes. There are strict alcohol limits for drivers, similar to those of the UK.
The best times to visit Jordan are spring (March to May) or fall (September to November). The days are warm, with temperatures between 61°F and 99°F, but the nights are cool. It's not too hot for exploring sites or hiking in the nature reserves, where flora and fauna are abundant.
Beginning just near the visitor center, the winding 1.2km ( 3/4-mile) walk through the narrow fissure, or canyonlike Siq, that leads into Petra can take from 45 minutes to 1 1/2 hours, depending on your pace.

If you have 4 to 6 days for your visit to Jordan, you can comfortably fit in Petra, Wadi Rum, and the Dead Sea. You can either focus your time between these 3 amazing places, or add a few additional destinations onto your itinerary including Aqaba at the shores of Red Sea, or spend some time exploring Amman.
Driving through the rest of Jordan is easy. And, many roads you'll have to yourself. But, Amman is a different beast full of one way streets, steep hills, and unceasing traffic jams.
