The Cabin in the Woods is one of the sharpest satires of the horror genre ever made. Great satire can only come from intelligent, witty, and devious minds. Director Drew Goddard and his co-writer Joss Whedon have those minds.
There is a lot of blood, but it is so much that it becomes absurd and funny. It's probably close to Evil Dead II or Army of Darkness in terms of gore and violence. Combined with Whedon's dialogue, it is amazing. It's gory but not hard to watch.
