If you find circulated 1776-1976 quarters either with no mintmark (those were made in Philadelphia) or the "D" (Denver) mintmark in pocket change, they're worth face value – 25 cents. If you find a 1776-1976 quarter with an "S" (San Francisco) mintmark, it's either a proof specimen or a 40% silver Bicentennial quarter.

The variety is identified by a die clash—a raised line caused by the two dies coming in contact without a planchet—near the mouth of the eagle on the reverse. Its location makes it appear that the eagle is spitting.
Quarters dated 1964 and earlier are 90% silver and worth many times their face value. With today's high value of silver your old coins are becoming surprisingly valuable. Scarce and rare quarters are found in all the design series. Early era quarters, 1796 to the 1890's are all scarce.
A certain number of quarters produced in 1970 have a tiny misprint which makes them very valuable. According to Good Housekeeping magazine, the coins were printed over 1941 Canadian quarters and therefore a tiny "1941" marking appears above the word "dollar" on the back of the coin.

All of that aside, all 1970 proof quarters will have an S mintmark to indicate that they are from the San Francisco mint. So, if your 1970 quarter does not have an S mint mark (meaning it has no mint mark or it has a D mintmark) then you can stop reading. You do not have the 1970-S mistrike error.

Unfortunately, if you created your collection from coins you found in your wallet and at your bank, your 50 quarters probably have no more value than 25 cents each. A complete collection is worth $12.50, which isn't nothing, but also isn't a lot.
The simplest method to find out if your quarter is silver is to check the date. It will appear on the front (obverse) of the coin. Any quarter with a date earlier than 1965 will be silver. You can also check the edge (the "side") of the coin.
A 1965 silver quarter is rare because in 1965 U.S. quarters were supposed to be made of copper-nickel clad.
How Much Is A 2020-W Quarter Worth? While you can find other West Point quarters for face value in circulation, these made-for-circulation rarities are worth much more than just 25 cents! The value of a 2020-W quarter is based on the condition of the coin: A worn 2020-W quarter can fetch between $5 and $10.
With mintages of just 2 million per design, the 2019-W quarters become the scarcest circulating quarters since the 1937-S Washington quarter. Because they're so scarce, 2019-W quarters are worth significantly more than their face value.
