Depending on your e-mail provider, this is usually either your full e-mail address or the part of your e-mail address before the "@" symbol. This is the password for your account. Usually this password is case-sensitive. The incoming mail server for an IMAP account may also be called the IMAP server.
Port 443 is a virtual port that computers use to divert network traffic. Billions of people across the globe use it every single day. Any web search you make, your computer connects with a server that hosts that information and fetches it for you. This connection is made via a port – either HTTPS or HTTP port.
SFTP, which stands for SSH (or Secure) File Transfer Protocol, usually runs on Port 22 (but can be assigned whatever port you want) and is a way for transferring files between machines over a Secure and Encrypted Connection, unlike FTP, which transfers data over an insecure and unencrypted connection.
Your Email Client Configuration Info
- Domain email address and password.
- Incoming mail server and port information.
- Outgoing mail server and port information.
Note that blocking TCP 445 will prevent file and printer sharing – if this is required for business, you may need to leave the port open on some internal firewalls. If file sharing is needed externally (for example, for home users), use a VPN to provide access to it.
To set up your SMTP settings:
- Access your SMTP Settings.
- Enable "Use custom SMTP server"
- Set up your Host.
- Enter the applicable Port to match your Host.

Set up IMAP and change your SMTP settings to read Gmail messages in other mail clients, like Microsoft Outlook and Apple Mail. When you use IMAP, you can read your Gmail messages on multiple devices, and messages are synced in real time. You can also read Gmail messages using POP.

Type "ping," a space and then the name of your SMTP Server. For example, type "ping smtp.server.com" and press "Enter." The window will then try to contact the SMTP server by the IP address. It will say, "Pinging x.x.x.x with 32 bytes of data." The "x.x.x.x" will be the SMTP server's IP address.
We can say that an email server (or mail server) is your digital postal service. It's a machine or application responsible for handling messages. In other words, an email server receives and delivers emails, this is its function.

Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) means that all of your email is saved on your Internet Service Provider's servers. If you are using IMAP, you can run an email program at home and an email program at work and both programs will access the same set up messages and folders.
If you get your email from a web site, it's IMAP. If you download it to a mail client without using a web browser, it's probably POP3. If you were using Microsoft Exchange, you'd know it: it's ancient. (Replaced by Outlook.)
SMTP settings are simply your Outgoing Mail Server settings. It's a set of communication guidelines that allow software to transmit email over the Internet. Most email software is designed to use SMTP for communication purposes when sending email that only works for outgoing messages.

Mail Servers, Email Clients and IMAPEmail servers are always used when sending and receiving email messages. With IMAP, though, they remain on the server unless you explicitly delete them from it. When you sign into an email client like Microsoft Outlook, it contacts the email server using IMAP.
IMAP security issuesThe top IMAP security issue is due to the fact that it was designed to accept plaintext login credentials. However, there is still no mechanism in the IMAP protocol for requiring the use of MFA. TechTarget. Improperly configured IMAP services can lead to successful attacks.
IMAP allows you to access your email wherever you are, from any device. When you read an email message using IMAP, you aren't actually downloading or storing it on your computer; instead, you're reading it from the email service.
IMAP and POP transmit your username, password, and the contents of all your messages in plain text. This means they can be intercepted relatively easily. However, IMAP and POP can use SSL encryption, which is what is used on encrypted web pages, and is theoretically quite secure.
IMAP is better if you are going to be accessing your email from multiple devices, such as a work computer and a smart phone. POP3 works better if you are only using one device, but have a very large number of emails. It is also better if you have a poor internet connection and need to access your emails offline.
For most users, IMAP is a better choice than POP. POP is a very old way of receiving mail in an email client. IMAP also lets you sync folders between your home computer, your phone, and Fastmail on the web, so that you see the same folders and messages wherever and however you access your email.
SMTP. The Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) is used for sending and receiving e-mail between e-mail clients and servers.
