To achieve a better bond between the tape's adhesive and the vinyl's surface, simply heat the tape after you've masked the vinyl. This can be done with a standard issue heat gun or even a good quality hair dryer.
What can you apply Adhesive Vinyl onto?
- Glass: For Glass surfaces, we recommend using any our our Permanent Lines.
- Plastics: Plastics come in all sorts of varieties, so it can sometimes be hard to say which vinyl to use.
- Ceramics: Ceramics are similar to Glass, so I would also recommend permanent.
- Canvas: And Canvas.
You want to cut on permanent adhesive outdoor vinyl like Oracle 651. This vinyl can withstand washing (by hand). It has a stronger adhesive on the back to give it a better stick which is ideal for smaller designs. I'd recommend either a pack of Oracal 651 vinyl from Amazon or Swing Design - but check the prices!

As you can see, HTV goes on so easily to anything made of polyester! But if you look around you'll realize most fabrics you use are probably polyester! The melting point of polyester is pretty high (482 degrees Fahrenheit) which means that you're at no risk for melting your polyester fabric using any of our HTV.
651 is great for mugs because of it's permanent adhesive strength - however keep in mind it's not considered dishwasher or microwave safe so you'll want to hand wash. After applying 651 vinyl to a mug be sure to let it cure (sit) for about 48 hours before washing. This just lets the adhesive come to full strength.
What Is Permanent Vinyl? Permanent Vinyl contains a much more powerful adhesive on it. It is a long-lasting vinyl, and while you can remove this Vinyl, it will usually leave the sticky residue behind (which can be hard to remove), and it additionally might tear the paint off the walls/cars, etc.

The main difference between 651 and 631 is going to fall in the adhesive on the vinyl and the finish on the vinyl. Oracal 631 has a matte finish on it - meaning it does not have the glossy sheen to it, it also has a lighter adhesive so it is best used indoors and can be removed faily easily.

Heat transfer vinyl, also known as, iron-on vinyl, t-shirt vinyl or HTV, is a special type of vinyl that can adhere to fabric. This is different than adhesive vinyl sheets and rolls, that are sticky from the onset.
Heat transfer vinyl is always cut with the glossy, carrier side down. This way the blade cuts through the adhesive side of the material, so you'll always need to mirror your artwork when working with HTV. Pressure sensitive vinyl is always cut with the glossy, color side up and the liner side down.

Yes, Cricut vinyl will stick to stained wood but there is one tip that may make your project a bit easier. Stain can leave an oily residue that will make your vinyl lift from the surface. Seal with a waterbased Polycrylic then wait 24 hours.

Cricut Brand Vinyl– Even though it says Cricut on the vinyl, you can still use it in your Silhouette. This brand is well known and comes in a variety of “strengths” to fit all your needs. The two strengths used most in your crafting needs are 631 and 651. These are sold in rolls and sheets.
You can use any Silhouette vinyl or Cricut vinyl to do this project, but be sure you are using permanent adhesive vinyl. This is the best technique for putting vinyl on canvas. When you are applying vinyl to canvas you want to make sure you have a textured surface that the vinyl will stick too.
