While Bill Gates is a Life Scout, his father, William Sr., is an Eagle Scout. In 2010, Gates was honored by the Boy Scouts with the Silver Buffalo award for his service to the youth.
Construction-based Eagle projects often cost upwards of $1000, while restoration Eagle projects can cost less than $300. On average, most Eagle projects will fall around the $500-$800 range, once all expenses are taken into account.
The Scout's unit must provide adults to assist or keep an eye on things, and your organization should also have someone available. The Scout, however, must provide the leadership necessary for project completion without adult interference.
Since 1912, over 2 million youth have risen to the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America, Eagle Scout. This month, 12-year-old Polley from Troop 24 of Nevada City earned his Eagle Scout badge and became one the youngest Eagle Scouts in Boy Scout history.

No minimum hours requirementThe goal of an Eagle Scout service project is for the Scout to plan, develop and give leadership — however long that takes. That's why there's no requirement for a minimum number of hours that must be worked on an Eagle project.
Eagle Scout is the highest advancement rank in Scouts BSA. In 2019, 61,366 Scouts earned the Eagle Scout rank. From 1912 to 2019, 2,598,999 Scouts have earned the Eagle Scout rank.
The Final Plan is not required or approved by the BSA or a Scout leader, but the beneficiary organization can require the Scout to complete that plan so they would both have the same understanding of what is expected.
After the project is complete, write-up the “Project Report†in the Workbook: The Scout will need to complete the section titled “Eagle Scout Service Project Report†(the Project Report pages A - C. Remember to obtain signatures of completion from the Unit Leader and Beneficiary.
The only difference between giving leadership then and giving leadership for your Eagle Scout project is the context in which you're giving that leadership.

A good Eagle project should:Allow you to show planning, development and leadership skills. Benefit a religious institution, a school or your community. (It can't benefit Scouting, so a project at your council camp is out.) Be feasible.
Learning The Skills Needed To Carry Out The ProjectYou may have skills and information that he needs. Other Scout leaders or parents may be able to help him out. In some cases your son may need to contact a professional for help.
