The Catholic Church follows the Vulgate version of Galatians in recognizing twelve fruits: charity, joy, peace, patience, benignity (kindness), goodness, longanimity (forbearance), mildness (gentleness), faith, modesty, continency (self-control), and chastity.
It is the fruit of Christian character. Galatians 5:22-23 says, “…the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” (ESV) These are the qualities of Christian or Christlike character.
Living in the fruit of the spirit means You are aware of the influence of the Holy Spirit. As a child of God, you'll want to shape your life around the leadership of the Holy Spirit. Someone who walks in the Spirit patterns his or her life after Jesus Christ. It is a way of faith.
To grow in the Lord, you need to implement discipline in your life. Spiritual discipline! In a biblical context, “discipline means discipleship”. In order to be fruitful you need to be a true disciple of Christ, and in order to be a disciple you need to have discipline.
When believers abide in Christ, He abides in them, and as a result of this double abiding, they bear fruit for His glory. So what is the fruit? Inherent in the very analogy is the fact that the fruit is produced by the life of the vine—divine life. Therefore, the fruit is the manifestation of divine life.
1 : to remain stable or fixed in a state a love that abided with him all his days. 2 : to continue in a place : sojourn will abide in the house of the Lord. abide by. 1 : to conform to abide by the rules. 2 : to accept without objection : to acquiesce in will abide by your decision.
John 15:1-8 What Kind Of Fruit Are You Bearing In Your Life — Tell the Lord Thank You.
This is seen in God's dealings with Adam, Abraham, David, and Jesus. When God placed Adam and Eve in the garden, He commanded them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion” over all creation (Genesis 1:28).
From Matthew 7:15–20 (KJV):Ye shall know them by their fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them."
The best way to bear fruit is to stay connected to the vine, and that is Jesus. Remember that what you sow, you will reap. Sow to the spirit and you will reap the fruit of the Spirit. Spend time with God and you will grow in your ability to "have the mind of Christ."
Text. John 15:1–17 reads in the Douay–Rheims Bible: I am the true vine; and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me, that beareth not fruit, he will take away: and every one that beareth fruit, he will purge it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
Pruning is not a punishment for a Christian; it is a reward. God is the vinedresser who prunes the life of everyone who abides in Christ and bears the fruit of Christ. Spiritual pruning enhances spiritual growth by removing whatever inhibits spiritual growth.
Gregory the Great: Therefore every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit shall be cut down, and cast into the fire, because he who here neglects to bring forth the fruit of good works finds a fire in hell prepared for him.
An angel came from heaven to strengthen him. During his agony as he prayed, "His sweat was, as it were, great drops of blood falling down upon the ground" (Luke 22:44).
“Fruit that will last” only comes about as God works through us by the Holy Spirit. Our role is simply to abide, to remain, in Him. As we do this; as we give up our independence; and submit to Him in a moment by moment way, we make it possible for God to work through us and produce the fruit that will last.
So this means that when we begin to read what the fruit of the Spirit is, Paul is not naming different kinds of fruit that the Spirit gives, instead he is describing the different characteristics of the grace that the Spirit is working in you.
Bare and bear sound alike so it's easy to imagine why people confuse the two. Do you have them straight in your mind? Bare is a verb that means to “to uncover.” However, if you keep in mind that the verb bear means “to endure” or “to be patient,” the expression“bear with me” will make sense.
