Demogorgon is a deity or demon, associated with the underworld and envisaged as a powerful primordial being, whose very name had been taboo. Although often ascribed to Greek mythology, the name probably arises from an unknown copyist's misreading of a commentary by a fourth-century scholar, Lactantius Placidus.
We don't see Hopper die, nor do we see the remnants of his body after his apparent explosion, hence, he's probably still alive. Another flaw in the Hopper is dead assumption is as I said earlier - it breaks pattern. It's not that Stranger Things doesn't kill off characters, it does.

The first official “Stranger Things” novel from Del Rey Books, a prequel out Tuesday, goes back to 1969, with plenty of cultural references to The Beatles, the Vietnam War, the moon landing and "Lord of the Rings" to prove it. “Stranger Things: Suspicious Minds” tells the story of Eleven's mother, Terry Ives.
A key part of the Upside Down is the spores that float through it, making it look like a sinister version of the planet in Avatar. Those are also mostly CGI. “The Duffers are really picky about the spores,” Paul Graff said.

Hopper's death is one of the most emotional moments in the series to date. He and Joyce (Winona Ryder) are trying to close the Soviet-opened gate to the Upside Down and kill the Mind Flayer targeting Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), when the Soviet assassin that's been plaguing Hop all season shows up.
Stranger Things season 3 left one of its most disheartening plot developments for the very end: Chief Jim Hopper is dead, at least if you believe what you read in the Indianapolis Gazette. Hopper, played by David Harbour, is indeed missing from Hawkins.

The most important question heading into Season 2 was what happened to Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), the psychokinetic young lab subject who had sacrificed herself in the finale, ending the threat posed by the Upside Down monster but disappearing into the unknown.
At birth, Eleven was taken away from her mother by Dr. Martin Brenner and was raised in the National Laboratory in Hawkins, Indiana as a test subject to develop her psychokinetic skills.
