Fecal exam: $25-$45. Heartworm test: $45-$50. Dental cleaning: $70-$400. Allergy testing: $195-$250 for skin test, $200-$300 for blood test.
And depending on what test it is, it's either 24 hours to perhaps 48 to 72 hours for some of the longer taking tests. It's completely variable and depends on what it is and the lab test. But anywhere from minutes for point-of-care diagnostics or a few days for some of the bigger, harder-to-find tests.
Chem 7: Blood Chemistry Tests
- Blood Urea Nitrogen.
- Carbon Dioxide.
- Creatinine.
- Glucose.
- Serum Chloride.
- Serum Potassium.
- Serum Sodium.
GLOB (globulin) is a blood protein that often increases with chronic inflammation and certain disease states, including some cancers. TBIL (total bilirubin) elevations may indicate liver or haemolytic disease. This test helps identify bile duct problems and certain types of anaemia.
The chem-10 consisted of blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, sodium, potassium, chloride, carbon dioxide (sometimes called bicarbonate), glucose, calcium, magnesium, and … ta-dah! phosphate!
This is a panel of tests that provides information about the organs and tissues of the body, and helps to detect diabetes, kidney disease, liver disease, and other disorders (for more information, see handout “Serum Biochemistry”).
What Causes Liver Problems
- Some plants and herbs such as ragwort, certain mushrooms, and blue-green algae.
- Leptospirosis, a bacterial disease dogs can get through direct contact with urine from infected animals or through water, soil, or food contaminated with their urine.
- Molds that grow on corn.
- Untreated heartworms.
This process is quite simple and can be done by the pet owner or a veterinarian. Some veterinarians prefer to submit a blood sample, where they can be assured that large amounts of DNA are present. While the needle prick of blood collection may upset your pet for a moment, overall the process will not hurt your pet.
Ultimately, the only downside to Wisdom Panel is the fewer genetic markers (1,800 vs Embark's 200,000), so Embark wins when it comes to accuracy. Embark also offers the canine relatives and breed mix matcher features, which are really nifty options Wisdom Panel lacks.
If possible, do not feed your pet for about 6 hours before your appointment. Fasting helps to clear the blood of lipemia, fat droplets that appear after eating. Lipemia can interfere with some blood tests and make the results difficult to interpret.
DNA test results include your dog's breed mix by percentage based on a library of anywhere from 250-350 unique dog breeds. For each of the breeds your pup gets, you can get additional information on each breed: temperament, appearance, history, fun facts, and related breed information.

Most UK vets advise routinely vaccinating dogs against leptospirosis (commonly called lepto) as part of their yearly booster injection. This also protects against distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus and parainfluenza.
Common Cushing disease dog symptoms include increased thirst, increased hunger, more frequent urination (and possibly going to the toilet indoors), panting and hair loss. Dogs with Cushing's may also experience abdominal swelling, lethargy and changes to their skin, such as lesions and skin infections.
A SMAC 20 blood test is regularly ordered group of tests that gives important information about the current status of your health including glucose or blood sugar levels, kidney function, cholesterol, sodium and potassium levels' and more.
The comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP) is a blood test that gives doctors information about the body's fluid balance, levels of electrolytes like sodium and potassium, and how well the kidneys and liver are working.
You usually need to fast for 8–12 hours before a test. Most tests that require fasting are scheduled for early in the morning. That way, most of your fasting time will be overnight.
This blood test gives information about your body's metabolism, or how your body uses food for energy. It gives a snapshot of the health of your kidneys, your blood sugar levels, and the levels of key electrolytes, such as potassium and sodium.
A basic metabolic panel is a blood test that measures your sugar (glucose) level, electrolyte and fluid balance, and kidney function. Glucose is a type of sugar your body uses for energy. Electrolytes keep your body's fluids in balance.
The Chem Panel (Basic) with lipids provides testing for Glucose (Diabetes), Kidney function, Fluids and Electrolytes, Minerals and Bone, Liver function, Lipid Profile and an Estimated Coronary Heart Disease Risk calculation. Patient Instructions: Patient should fast 12 hours prior to specimen collection.
The most common specimens used in clinical chemistry are blood and urine. Many different tests exist to detect and measure almost any type of chemical component in blood or urine. Components may include blood glucose, electrolytes, enzymes, hormones, lipids (fats), other metabolic substances, and proteins.
Includes sodium, potassium, chloride, total carbon dioxide, BUN, creatinine, glucose, total calcium, albumin, total bilirubin, alkaline phosphatase, total protein, ALT, AST. Individual tests may be ordered separately.
The complete blood count, or CBC, gives the veterinarian information about your dog's hydration status, anemia, infection, blood clotting ability, and immune system response. A CBC is essential for dogs that have symptoms like fever, vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, pale gums, or loss of appetite.
Blood work pricing at a lab can range anywhere from $100 for one simple test, to $3,000 for several complex tests. On average, to get blood work done at a lab when the patient is uninsured will cost around $1,500.
Normal dogs and cats should have platelet counts close to or >200,000/µL; normal horses and cows should have platelet counts of 100,000/µL or greater.
Tests: a urinalysis can run anywhere from $25–$75 depending on your location, veterinarian, and how the urine is collected. A urine culture typically costs between $100-$200.
There are different types of leukocytes, and a white blood count (WBC) is a total of all the various kinds. The normal range for a WBC count in the dog would be between 6,000 and 17,000 per microliter, and in the cat, 4,900-20,000/µ l.
Routine care & wellnessThis usually includes: spaying and neutering, annual checkups, vaccinations, flea & tick control, heartworm medication, teeth cleaning, ear cleaning, and microchipping. These are almost always excluded from pet insurance coverage.
