Are Dodge and Ram the Same Thing? In 2009, the Chrysler Group restructured the Dodge brand. Cars and minivans went under the Dodge nameplate, while its trucks, the Dodge Ram and Dodge Dakota, became Ram trucks. Since the 2010 model year, Ram has been a separate part of the same company that focuses solely on trucks.
In 2009, Dodge's parent company, Chrysler, decided to make RAM a stand-alone name for their pickup trucks. That's why if you own a Dodge pickup truck made before 2009, it's called a Dodge RAM, and post-2009 pickups are RAM trucks.
Who owns Dodge now?
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles
The Dodge Ram lineup was revitalized again in 1981 where it continued under this moniker until 2009. Under the ownership of FCA it was decided that the two brands should be separate entities. The separation of Dodge from Ram allowed Dodge to focus on technological advancements in their sedans and muscle cars.

In fact, it was in 2009 when Chrysler announced it would separate the Ram Truck lineup from the Dodge name to better focus Ram to real truck customers and Dodge to performance enthusiasts. Many thought the separation was a huge risk, and even to this day, there are some that still call their new trucks Dodge Ram.
RAM stands for Random Access Memory. The data stored in RAM can be accessed almost instantly regardless of where in memory it is stored, so it's very fast — milliseconds fast. RAM has a very fast path to the computer's CPU, or central processing unit, the brain of the computer that does most of the work.
While the all-new model costs a lot more money, it's well worth it. The RAM 1500 Classic, though, still has its place in the market as a capable, versatile, and heavy-duty pickup truck. If all you're looking for is a work truck that can tow over 10,000 pounds, the Ram 1500 Classic is still a strong choice.
