Several seasons after the McCartney episode, the Level 5 Vegan term was coined in an episode titled, “Lisa The Tree Hugger.” The episode defined a Level 5 Vegan as someone who never eats anything that casts a shadow. While this definition is nonsensical (it is a joke, after all), the Level 5 term caught on.
The Flexitarian Diet is a style of eating that encourages mostly plant-based foods while allowing meat and other animal products in moderation. It's more flexible than fully vegetarian or vegan diets. This article provides an overview of the Flexitarian Diet, its benefits, foods to eat and a one-week meal plan.
Flexitarian is a term recently coined to describe those who eat a mostly vegetarian diet but occasionally eat meat. Vegetarians do not eat meat. A flexitarian or a semi-vegetarian is not a vegetarian.
Most packaged pasta—including spaghetti, rotini, and any other type—is 100 percent vegan. To know for sure, simply check the ingredients on your package! Sometimes, you might see “egg” listed as an ingredient in “fresh” pastas, so avoid those—but generally, pasta contains no animal-derived ingredients.
Vegetarians Slimmer Than Meat-Eaters, Study Finds. A new study from Loma Linda University researchers shows an association between diet type and weight, with vegetarians having a lower body mass index than non-vegetarians.
We do not all need to become vegan, but a hamburger should only make it to the dinner table once a week, a large steak only once a month. A weekly bit of chicken, some fish and an egg are fine. Dairy should be limited to 250g per day. Vegetables and fruit should make up at least half of everyone's plate.
Vegetarians live longer, but it's not because they don't eat meat. In fact, in this study, vegetarians live six to nine years longer, which is a huge effect. But vegetarians are also more likely to exercise, be married, smoke less and drink less alcohol—all factors that also contribute to a longer life.

1. Vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 is an essential nutrient that's almost exclusively found in animal-sourced foods, such as fish, meat, dairy products, and eggs ( 1 ). Vegans who don't take supplements are therefore at a higher risk of vitamin B12 deficiency than vegetarians ( 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 ).
A semi-vegetarian diet is a meal plan that contains little animal protein, but mostly plant-based foods. Vegetarians DO NOT eat: Fowl. Seafood. Beef.
There's usually only one thing that separates a vegetarian from a vegan: cheese. Well, eggs and dairy, of course, but cheese is something that few people voluntarily cut from their diet. Unfortunately for the many vegetarians that probably eat cheese regularly, not all cheeses are vegetarian.
It's easy to find vegan alcohol, but you have to do some research since beer and wine can be processed using animal products such as isinglass, egg whites, or gelatin. Fortunately, virtually every brand of hard liquor—bourbon, whiskey, vodka, gin, and rum—is vegan.
Cheese, it's the kryptonite of most new vegans! Being vegan means no animal products or byproducts. When asked about the most missed product, many vegans answer “cheese.” That's because cheese contains the addictive opiate morphine. The answer is simple: you don't eat cheese because you don't eat cheese.
Traditionally bread is made from yeast, flour, water, and salt, so it would be suitable for vegans. Unfortunately some commercially sold breads (e.g. sold at supermarkets) contain dairy such as whey (a milk protein) or eggs as fillers or stabilizers and those breads would not be considered vegan (or plant-based).
Regular old black coffee is vegan, but cafe au lait, cappuccino, and other coffee drinks are decidedly not vegan—or at least, they aren't usually. While you can now find milk alternatives used at many coffee shops, you often pay a premium. Learn to make dairy-free, vegan versions of typically milky coffee drinks.
Based on the definition of vegetarian as a diet which excludes consumption of animal flesh, technically, yes, eggs are vegetarian, since they are not animal flesh (the meat, muscles or tissue of an animal). Note that while eggs are vegetarian, they are certainly, under no circumstances, considered vegan.

- Day 2. Breakfast: Oatmeal with peanut butter and chopped apple.

It can help you lose weight, but how much you eat still counts. Research shows that vegetarians tend to weigh less than people who eat meat. Becoming a vegetarian doesn't guarantee weight loss, but adding more plant-based foods to your diet can help your health in many ways.
The best diet is the one we can maintain for life and is only one piece of a healthy lifestyle. People should aim to eat high-quality, nutritious whole foods, mostly plants (fruits and veggies), and avoid flours, sugars, trans fats, and processed foods (anything in a box).
Plant-based diets carry some risk of inadequate protein, vitamin, and mineral intake. But these risks are readily overcome by choosing the right vegetarian foods and, when necessary, supplements.

Whether they're baked, fried, diced, sliced, or mashed, potatoes may be the ultimate comfort food. Not only are they delicious, they're also one of the cheapest, easiest, and most vegan-friendly foods at the grocery store.
