Its style was influenced by the 1930s Fleischer cartoons, and featured Swee'Pea, Wimpy, Bluto (who is Popeye's friend in this version), Olive Oyl, Poopdeck Pappy and the Sea Hag as its characters.
The Wimpy brand was established in 1934 by Edward Gold, when he opened his first location in Bloomington, Indiana under the name Wimpy Grills. The name was inspired by the character of J. Wellington Wimpy from the Popeye cartoons created by E. C. Segar.

5) In the comics, Popeye originally derived his great strength from rubbing the head of the Whiffle Hen. This gimmick, of course, was soon changed to spinach (by 1932).
A company called Grand Metropolitan PLC (which had also recently acquired Burger King) bought it and converted nearly 100 Wimpy counter-service units into Burger Kings.

A Bender in a Bun is an unconventional burger. Add some chopped onion, a thick slice of tomato, a thin slice of cheese and throw between the eponymous bun and you have a cornerstone of the Wimpy restaurant menu. It also acts as a curious symbol of the state of Britain today.
His best-known catchphrase started in 1931 as, "Cook me up a hamburger. I'll pay you Tuesday." In 1932, this then became the famous "I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today". Rough House explains why Wimpy is able to get away with this tactic in one strip, stating that "He never comes around on Tuesday".
Having acquired the brand, Famous Brands has rebranded Wimpy in the United Kingdom, to bring it in line with Wimpy South Africa. As of March 2019, only 67 restaurants remain in the United Kingdom, down from over 500 during its height in the 1970s.
The chain vanished within the United States after Gold's death because no one had purchased the rights and trademark to the Wimpy name from Gold's estate.
Little Chef stopped running as a brand at the end of January 2018 as the licence that Euro Garages uses for the brand expired and any Little Chefs left became EG Diners until Euro Garages decided on brands to rebrand the remaining estate. The last EG Diners that were not rebranded closed in October 2018.

11) In the comic, Popeye's one-eye facial feature is attributed to “The mos' 'arful battle”. It is later a bit unclear whether Popeye actually only has one eye or is just squinting (although in at least one cartoon, Bluto calls him a “one-eyed runt”).
In some rare instances within the cartoons, Popeye and Bluto are actually portrayed as friends or Navy buddies whose friendship only ends up broken due to their rivalry over Olive Oyl.

How I Solved The Riddle of Popeye's Big Forearms. In the cartoon, Popeye is known to be able to squeeze the spinach out of a can without opening if first. Even more impressive is that he can launch it out of the can at great speed and distance. So Popeye has huge forearms from squeezing cans of spinach.
So when Popeye was created, studio executives recommended he eat spinach for his strength, due to its vaunted health properties. Apparently Popeye helped increase American consumption of spinach by a third!
Why It Was Cancelled
Production of the film was canceled in favor of producing The Emoji Movie. Possible development issues may have caused this film to be cancelled. The Sony Hack may have also caused it to be cancelled since the film was first in development in 2014.Segar's comic strip Thimble Theatre/Popeye and in the cartoon series derived from it.
