Registered. Stevens (Savage) is an excellent shotgun. Have had two of them for many years; one is a magazine fed 12 gauge bolt action, and the other is a 12 gauge single shot, break open model.
The Stevens Model 320 is made by well known Westfield, Massachusetts based firearms manufacturer Savage Arms, but unlike Savage firearms, the Stevens shotguns are made in the People's Republic of China.
The Stoeger Condor is a solid shotgun for less than $500 that comes in a variety of gauges. It is a reliable, accurate gun that will give you years of service. You can't do much upgrading on it, but as a first shotgun you can't really beat it.
It's important to select a choke tube with little to no constriction. That's why a cylinder or improved cylinder choke is ideal for use with slugs. These types of chokes have a large enough diameter to shoot slugs without damaging the shotgun barrel or causing harm to the person firing.
They are found on Benelli, Beretta, Franchi, and Stoeger guns. They interchange between each brand. The only exceptions are the newer Benelli Crio, Beretta Optima and Optima Plus. The older Fran choke of the Franchi's won't interchange as well.
Yes you can shoot slugs through a modified choked shotgun. I have much the same results as post #9 above. My 70's era Mossberg in a fixed modified choke actually shoots slugs better than the cylinder bore, sighted "slug barrel" that is with the combo.
Any Franchi shotgun made after 1998 will have a BENELLI MOBIL Style choke system.
The proven Invector-Plus interchangeable choke tube system works hand-in-hand with back-boring to offer consistent, dense shot patterns with just the constriction needed for the shooting situation. Invector-Plus eliminates gases slipping between the choke tube and barrel that could damage the choke tube and the barrel.
In firearms, a choke is a tapered constriction of a gun barrel at the muzzle end. Chokes are most commonly seen on shotguns, but are also used on some rifles, pistols, or even airguns. Chokes are almost always used with modern hunting and target shotguns to improve performance.
No they are not the same. The benelli Crio has threads are the end of the muzzle. Crio plus has its threads 3/4 the way down the choke. They are not cross comparable if that is what you are getting at.
Mossberg 835 & 935: interchanges with Trulock's Mossberg 835 style. Remington Spartan 12 and 20 gauge: interchanges with Trulock's standard Tru-Choke style. Remington Spartan 16 gauge: interchanges with Trulock's Baikal style.
Over the past 30 years, many products have featured the Standard Invector System. Extended versions are available for Standard Invector, which make them appear to be similar to the Invector Plus, but they are NOT interchangeable.
I shot all of the slugs out of the 320, and when shooting the slugs it became a self ejecting shotgun!!! There was probably only 2 or 3 slugs that I needed to eject on my own out of the 25. As far as accuracy goes.
Field Guns - These are typically lighter for hunting, a more pronounced drop in the comb, a 28" barrel, and an automatic safety. These guns are perfect for long distance carry, durability to withstand rough use, and safety.
Types of Chokes
- Cylinder choke is an unconstricted barrel. The shot string spreads quickly.
- Improved Cylinder choke has a slight constriction. It allows the shot string to spread fairly quickly.
- Modified choke has moderate constriction.
- Full choke has tight constriction.
Thread: Stevens 320 barrelSome Winchester 1300 parts will work on the Stevens 320, but not everything is interchangeable.
A lower notch count means more constriction (tighter). A higher notch count means less constriction. 1 notch = Full. 2 notches = Improved modified. 3 notches = Modified.
Full chokes and steel shot don't mix, except when they do. Full and steel damage barrels, except when they don't. Full chokes and steel produce blown patterns, except when they don't.
Full: This choke has tight constriction and a dense pattern, delivering approximately 70 percent of a shell's total pellets in a 30-inch circle at 40 yards. This choke is often used for trap shooting, waterfowl pass shooting, turkey hunting and buckshot loads.
These chokes are recommended for steel shot: 3 notches = Modified. 4 notches = Improved cylinder. 5 notches = Cylinder.
Proponents of the extended choke tubes argue the extra length leads to tighter shot constriction and eventually tighter shot patterns. Much research has been done on this theory, and a lot of it suggests that extended choke tubes do make a difference. Keep in mind that models like this cannot be used with steel shot.
Sporting Clays- 5 StandNormally a round of Sporting Clays or 5-Stand is shot using three different choke constrictions. A close range choke such as cylinder, skeet or imp cyl., a mid range choke such as skeet 2 (lite mod) or mod and a longer range choke such as imp mod, full or ex full.
Yes it can be done. Mine shot bigger patterns with 000 through the extra full than it did the full. 4 buck through the extra full was very tight. 00 was tight keeping all 9 pellets in the kill zone out to 50 yards.
Firing heavy charges of steel shot can cause the barrels to bulge before the choke, (about 3 inches from the muzzle), and the barrels to separate. When the first steel shot shotshells were designed, they did not have the development the newer shells have that are currently on the market.
