If you're looking for a GoPro alternative at a lower price, the Akaso EK7000 is worth a look. It doesn't have the same bells and whistles as a GoPro, but it's a surprisingly good 4K action cam. The Akaso EK7000 looks a lot like a GoPro. It works a lot like a GoPro.

Back in February 2019 we took a look at the compact DJI OSMO Pocket. It was and impressive piece of pocketable imaging kit and now the DJI Pocket 2 has arrived. While this is the DJI OSMO Pocket 2, DJI is referring to this release as simply the Pocket 2 rather than OSMO Pocket 2.
The DJI Osmo Action was announced in May 2019 with an RRP of $379 / £329 / AU$499, though it is selling for $329/£279 at the time of this review. To compare, you can pick up a GoPro Hero7 Black for $329 / £319 / AU $529.

The GoPro really excels when taking action video footage while you're running along a trail or with it attached to a ski helmet or mountain bike. The screen of the iPhone, however, is much larger than the GoPro's, which allows you to much better focus on what you're shooting. The touch targets are much more natural.
Here come the pluses.

Part of the price of GoPro is legacy; you are paying for brand identity and associated cost which includes their accessory systems and constant development of product lines.
The HERO8 has high frame rate options and night modes, but the MAX doesn't. MAX has the 5.6K30 360° video but doesn't have 4K video in Hero mode. While GoPro cameras are not a be all end all solution, it would be nice if both models started sharing more of each other's specs.
In essence, the GoPro is a great action camera. So if you are intending on doing some activities, whether that's hiking, to diving and everything in between then yes, it is definitely worth having a GoPro for travel photography. You should also have a decent camera, which in most instances, will take a better photo.
Despite some shortcomings, the GoPro Hero 7 Black is easily the best action camera on the market right now. GoPro made significant and actually useful improvements on this camera and it is worth using not only for action scenarios but everyday use as well.
GoPros have a lot going for them that make them an attractive option to throw in the backpack for a travel adventure. And while I'm focusing here on using them for photos, their video quality is excellent for the price and size. They're small and light, rugged, and the image quality is remarkably good.
