Where's My Refund? is available almost all of the time. However, our system is not available every Monday, early, from 12 a.m. (Midnight) to 3 a.m. Eastern Time. Our Refund Trace feature is not available during the following times (Eastern Time): Sunday: 12 a.m. (Midnight) to 7 p.m.
How to track your stimulus check's status and arrival
- Head to the IRS' Get My Payment page and tap the blue Get My Payment button to check the status of your economic impact payment.
- On the next page about authorized use, tap OK.
The IRS expects the first EITC/ACTC related refunds to be available in taxpayer bank accounts or on debit cards by the first week of March, if they chose direct deposit and there are no other issues with their tax return. So EITC /ACTC filers will not see an update to their refund status for several days after Feb. 15.
Eligible individuals can visit IRS.gov and use the Get My Payment tool to find out the status of their Economic Impact Payment. This tool will show if a payment has been issued and whether the payment was direct deposited or sent by mail.

The IRS only issued refunds once per week under the old system. They now issue refunds every business day, Monday through Friday (except holidays).
The IRS issues more than 9 out of 10 refunds in less than 21 days. However, it's possible your tax return may require additional review and take longer. Where's My Refund? has the most up to date information available about your refund. The tool is updated daily so you don't need to check more often.
If you are seeing this refund status “still being processed” it means the IRS can no longer guarantee your refund within the 21 day time frame. In some cases the IRS will correct the issue without further information being needed and you will update off this message to the “being processed refund status.
If the IRS thinks you claimed erroneous deductions or credits, the IRS can hold your refund. In this case, the IRS will audit you to figure out whether your return is accurate. If you prove to the IRS that you correctly took the deductions and/or credits, the IRS will issue your refund or corrected refund.
The legislation will give single adults who reported adjusted gross income of $75,000 or less on their 2019 tax returns a one-time check for $1,200. Married couples who filed jointly will receive $2,400. Families will get an additional $500 for each child under 17.
If you haven't received your tax refund after at least 21 days of filing online or six weeks of mailing your paper return, go to a local IRS office or call the federal agency (check out our list of IRS phone numbers that could get you help faster). But that won't fast-track your refund, according to the IRS.
You'll have to file a 2020 federal income tax return in 2021 to get the payment. The government has sent out 160 million stimulus payments to date, totaling more than $270 billion.
