Address envelopes vertically
To address your envelopes in the vertical fashion, it works best to place the recipient's address on the front of the envelope, and the return address on the back flap, as shown below. If you prefer, you could also place the return address in the upper left hand corner opposite the stamp.Does it matter if you address an envelope upside down? If hand sorted the person doing this does not need the writing orientated to how the envelope is sealed . Just be sure that you have the whole address and the zip plus 4 and it will get to the place it is meant to go!
To address a clasp envelope, start by turning the envelope so the clasp is facing down and the flap is on the right side. Then, write the sender's address in the upper top-left corner, making sure to write in fairly small print so you have plenty of space in the center of the envelope.
How many stamps do I need? For a standard letter: If you are mailing a standard letter, one Forever Stamp or one First Class Letter stamp at the top right corner of an envelope can be used. If the size of the letter is of the standard size, then a Forever stamp is sufficient for mailing within the United States.
How to Write Address
- 1st Row : From: First name Last name.
- 2nd Row : Name of the building, like an apartment bldg. and room number (if applicable)
- 3rd Row : House number, street, town/village.
- 4th Row : City, Prefecture/State/Province.
- 5th Row : Postal Code, Country.
If you need to address an envelope to Japan, get a vertical envelope or turn a regular one so it is vertical with the flap side down. Then, write the recipient's postal code in boxes across the top, and put their name and address vertically underneath it. Put your stamp on the top left corner of that side.

To make your own envelope, you just need a rectangular piece of paper and some tape. First, fold your piece of paper in half lengthwise and unfold. Then, rotate the paper 90 degrees and fold the top right corner down to the center crease. Do the same thing with the top left corner.
