In order to be eligible for the SilverSneakers Fitness program, you must be:
- 65 or older, or eligible for Medicare because of a disability.
- Living in the U.S.
- Enrolled in a private Medicare plan that offers the SilverSneakers benefit.
A National Network. The SilverSneakers network includes access to thousands of locally owned gyms, nationally recognized brands in fitness and community-based organizations. Unlike some other senior gym memberships, SilverSneakers gives you access to all of our participating locations.
Silver Sneakers is a completely free to use fitness program for Medicare beneficiaries. Seniors across the nation with a Silver Sneakers membership have unlimited access to over 14,000 gym locations where they can participate in healthy physical activity.

Making fitness easier for HealthPartners Medicare membersWith most HealthPartners Medicare plans, you get access to the Silver&Fit® Healthy Aging & Exercise program – at no extra cost to you. Program members can join a participating exercise center as well as use home fitness kits and stay fit kits.
Some (BC/BS) come with Silver Sneakers membership. Others (AARP United Health Care) come with Renew Active membership. As best as I can determine, Silver Sneakers allows use of multiple gyms/health clubs, whereas Renew Active limits one to a single specific gym/health club.

Enjoy the SilverSneakers store!As a Blue Cross Blue Shield member, your health plan may already include SilverSneakers program membership as an added benefit. That means free gym access to multiple SilverSneakers fitness locations and exercise classes led by certified instructors who know how to help seniors stay fit.
The program pays participating health clubs based on the number of times a person visits, with the reimbursement capped at about $30 per member per month, so FitClub has a financial incentive to get Silver Sneakers members to use its facilities, Imhoff said.
Which locations can I use? There are more than 16,000 SilverSneakers locations across the nation. You can enroll and participate at multiple locations at any time!
Silver Sneakers is a private health and fitness membership program designed for seniors. It's available at no cost to those enrolled in a participating Medicare Advantage plan. You can also take Silver Sneakers classes, which may include everything from cardio to tai chi to yoga, at no cost.
Many Medicare Advantage plans and some Medicare Supplement plans include SilverSneakers. Insurance plans that offer SilverSneakers include Humana, Aetna, Avmed, Kaiser Permanente, Wellcare and United Healthcare.
Get ID number.Most eligible health plan members get a welcome letter with their 16-digit ID number. Members can also find their ID number at SilverSneakers.com/Card or through the SilverSneakers GO mobile app.
The SilverSneakers Medicare program is available only through select Medicare Advantage plans or a few Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans. Once you get on a qualifying Medicare Advantage or Medigap plan, you'll sign up for the SilverSneakers program and receive a card with a 16-digit number.
Many of our clubs are included in a variety of Medicare fitness benefits — such as Silver & Fit®, SilverSneakers® and Renew Active™.
Benefits of the AARP Medicare Supplement Y membership program include: Members have access to full membership services including access to the YMCA and Y Express. New members do not pay a joiner fee. AARP Y Members will pay $13.50 (50% of the normal Y Senior Membership monthly rate) under this plan.
Unfortunately, Original Medicare does not cover YMCA membership or membership to a traditional for-profit gym. The Medicare program excludes weight loss supplements and programs from its coverage because these are typically viewed as lifestyle choices and are not considered to be directly related to treating illness.
You can opt into optional Medicare plans, such as Medicare Part C (Medicare Advantage) or Medicare supplement insurance (Medigap). These plans may cover fitness center and gym fees.
As of October 2019, United Healthcare announced that it will no longer offer SilverSneakers as a benefit.
Gold's Gym – As the largest co-ed gym with over 650 locations Gold's Gym will offer AARP members the ability to enroll for only $49.00 and a savings of up to a 20 percent on their monthly membership as well as a seven day free trail membership period.
