Jan 12, 2020 3:34 pm ET. ASBURY PARK – A team of travel writers has identified Asbury Park as among the "10 most dangerous" New Jersey cites, citing FBI statistics. "Only In Your State" cited New Jersey as one of the safest states in the country, following Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire.
Data from 2012 suggests that the average per capita income in New Jersey is $35,928 (Wikipedia). If you're making 3 times more than that, then you're in a good place. But it comes down to what you're happy with. Most people that I talk to are not happy with their income.
North Caldwell made a strong showing to take in the overall number one spot for the best place to live in New Jersey for 2020.

Cost of living is already one of the highest in the country and it's only getting worse. It's a good place to raise a family with good schools and safe towns but if you're a single person it might seem weird moving to NJ for a reason other than work. If you have a good-paying job it might be worth it to move here.

NEW JERSEY — If we, as New Jersey residents, didn't have to deal with the absurdly high cost of living and the not-so-great state of the economy, the Garden State might indeed be the best place to live in America. But in the area of education, New Jersey ranked 15th best, and our state is the safest in the country.
New Jersey is a fairly safe place to visit. Suburban and countryside areas are very safe along with most Jersey Shore towns. Cities are mostly safe but do exercise common travel sense.
