No, they won't stay on the track. Neither Trackmaster, Wooden Thomas nor Take n Play are compatible with each other.
Ikea advertises its wooden track as being compatible with most brand name train sets, like Thomas or Brio. The tracks are the same width (or to use the railway terminology, gauge) as the Thomas train sets, so you can run Thomas trains on them pretty easily.
That being said, I love that all the Melissa and Doug track sets are compatible and can be added to with their products, and with most other brands of track pieces. And, of course our defining factor, the tracks are compatible with the Thomas brand trains.
A typical piece of BRIO track is 40mm wide and 12mm high, with two 6mm wide grooves that are 3mm deep, spaced 20mm apart, measuring 26mm from center to center. The male connector is an 11.5mm peg on a 7mm long neck, and the female connector ranges from 15 to 17mm in diameter with a 5mm long throat.
Answer: The Take-n-Play do not support the Trackmaster engines that run on batteries. Of course inertia makes the engines/cars roll down the track but they do not complete the whole course.
Question: Are these fully compatible with Hape tracks and trains? This is compatible with nearly all of the wooden train track sets. I have Ikea, Brio several generic brands, and Hape and it works with all of them.
BRIO has carried on its legacy of quality and good design, but it has also modernized its offerings, both in style and in materials. Most regular BRIO sets now feature trains made primarily of plastic. Modern or classic, either way you're getting your money's worth when you buy a BRIO set.
Modern BRIO track is often stamped with “BRIO®” just below the male connector, but this is next to impossible to see in photos except on a close-up, and many older track that have been retired pre-date this feature.
