As malaria is present in Sabi Sand, the wet summer months pose a very slight risk of catching malaria. If you are visiting at this time, measures you can take to protect yourself include using mosquito repellent containing DEET and taking antimalarials.

The Kruger is one of the two South African National Parks that are situated in malaria risk areas. It is important to note that the risk of malaria in both of these parks is usually low, even in the summer months.

Waterberg Plateau Park is a low risk malaria area, but care needs to be taken during the Wet season from November to April. Anti-malaria medication is advised, as is mosquito repellent (those containing DEET are most effective) and covering up in the evening.
Recommended for unvaccinated travelers of all ages to South Africa. CDC recommends that travelers going to certain areas of South Africa take prescription medicine to prevent malaria. Talk to your doctor about which malaria medication you should take.
City centres like Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town are free from malaria and safe for travellers of all ages.
Hazyview is in a low-risk malaria area and we have had no reports or incidence of malaria at the lodge. If you plan to overnight in the Kruger Park, it is recommended that you take preventative measures, but not at the resort. It is a low risk malaria area.
Cape Town is not a malaria area. You don't need to worry about malaria tablets unless you are travelling from Cape Town to high-risk parts of the country. There is also a standard list of vaccinations that many countries recommend before travelling abroad that includes rabies, typhoid, and tetanus.

In South Africa, malaria is mainly transmitted along the border areas. Some parts of South Africa's nine provinces (Limpopo, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal) are endemic for malaria, and 10% of the population (approximately 4.9 million persons) is at risk of contracting the disease.
