The Six Nations started out as the Home Nations Championship in 1883, with Scotland sharing the championship with England in 1886 before winning the title outright for the first time a year later. Scotland have won the title outright 15 times and shared the championship a further nine times.
The Six Nations is one of the oldest tournaments in rugby, having been played in one form or another for more than 138 years. It takes place every year between the top rugby union-playing countries in Europe. The six countries that take part today are England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France and Italy.

The partition of Ireland (Irish: crÃochdheighilt na hÉireann) was the process by which the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland divided Ireland into two self-governing polities: Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland. It was enacted on 3 May 1921 under the Government of Ireland Act 1920.
So, basically, the IRFU predates the split of the Republic and the North, and was created when Ireland was a single country. Instead of dissolving the IRFU and creating two new rugby unions, they just kept it the way it was.
Ireland hold the record for getting furthest in the tournament without winning a match. Their first appearance was in Italy at the 1990 FIFA World Cup. 1990 was also their best performance in a major championship, where they reached the quarter-finals.

There are 56 clubs affiliated to the Ulster Branch; 71 to the Leinster Branch; 59 to the Munster Branch and 23 to the Connacht Branch. In addition, there are 246 schools playing rugby: Ulster (107), Leinster (75), Munster (41) and Connacht (23).
Seventeen Leinster Rugby players have been selected in the Ireland squad for the 2021 Guinness Six Nations.
If France score five tries and beat Scotland by 20 points, the title would be shared for the first time since 1988. A bonus-point victory for Scotland would ensure them second place in the table behind Wales.
If Wales lose but earn a bonus point, and France win without a bonus points, Wales are champions.
Wales are one match away from winning a Grand Slam after a convincing victory in Rome, but the 2021 Six Nations title is by no means guaranteed. Scotland's title hopes were ended by Ireland in Edinburgh, leaving France as the only other side still in the running.
England extended their winning run against France to eight matches to lift the 2021 Women's Six Nations trophy. It was not exactly a convincing performance, particularly in attack, but a 10-6 victory made it three back-to-back championships for the Red Roses.
If Wales win: They are Grand Slam champions. If it's a draw: Wales are Six Nations champions. Even if France get a bonus point win, Wales will still win the title if they score four tries and lose by seven points or less as they will get two bonus points.
