First, it should be noted that the fast pass only covers the roller coaster and two other rides. If you will be with small children or not planning on going on roller coasters it will not be worth it. I also agree with Joel L. that the lines are managed well and wait times are usually reasonable.
Hershey Lodge seems more geared towards families with children. It has a small indoor water park and more family-friendly restaurants. Hotel Hershey is older, has more upscale restaurants and you will probably find the rooms are smaller. However, it is a beautiful property.
