Acrylic latex-based paint is durable and easy to clean up. With latex paints, always follow the manufacturer's instructions regarding cure time. A gloss finish will make your cabinets sheen, but it may show a lot of dings or mistakes. Semi-gloss or satin finishes are typically used for kitchens.

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint will adhere beautifully to laminate. All I do is clean my piece to remove any residue or dirt and then apply the paint. Once again, laminate top.

Typically I will pick up an interior satin enamel paint because I know a satin finish provides great durability on furniture. When chalk paint isn't properly protected and sealed it can chip and scratch pretty easily.

Most DIYers love chalk paint mainly because it is thicker than the regular paint, which means that it is easier to use. Also, since it's latex-based, the surface it is applied on can be cleaned with water. With that said, don't be tempted to write on your chalk-painted surface as you might end up ruining it.
Chalk paint is about as durable as latex paint. They are both water based, so they will both react roughly the same to water stains, spills, nicks, etc. However, the finish coat is what protects your furniture. The wax finish will be a little more expensive than the latex clear coat, but will usually last longer.
You have to also be careful to apply wax very evenly. What happens if you don't wax chalk paint evenly is that built-up of too much wax can attract dirt. But a thin layer of wax could allow water to penetrate so be sure to use coasters on pieces that get a lot of use.
The important thing is to completely seal your piece so no water can get in and damage your paintwork. Stir Chalk Paint® Lacquer well before starting and regularly during use. All the good stuff tends to sink to the bottom! Apply a thin coat of Lacquer.

Yes- you can paint over wax the same day you applied the wax… BUT – the wax must feel dry to the touch and NOT tacky. This situation happens to people and know that it is not a problem to paint using Chalk Paint® over previously painted and waxed pieces. Annie created her products to work harmoniously together.
