For the 2019-2020 calendar, the first day of school is August 12, with the last day being May 22, 2020. For the 2020-2021 calendar, the first day of school is August 10 and the last day is May 26, 2021. Each school year ends prior to Memorial Day.
Government and politicsIn recent years, along with many other counties in the Atlanta area, DeKalb County has voted strongly Democratic in presidential elections, while in the past it was more of a swing county, voting Democratic and Republican an equal number of times from 1960 until 1988.

As DeKalb County School District (DCSD) plans for the 2021-2022 school year, the needs of our students and teachers are being considered. The District is also expanding FLEX Academy to offer virtual remote learning as an option for middle and high school students.

Silicon Valley Flex Academy (Silicon Valley Flex) is a full-time, tuition-free public charter school located in Morgan Hill in Santa Clara County, serving students in grades 6 through 12.
