A long, pebble beach that runs south-west from Clevedon, an old Victorian seaside resort at the mouth of the River Severn. Amenities all along the seafront, promenade and pier, which is popular with fishermen.
The pier opened in 1869 and served as an embarkation point for paddle steamer excursions for almost 100 years.

The water quality in Clevedon Marine Lake is excellent. We took a sample for testing on July 27th 2020, and the lab found that the water had very low levels of bacteria. This is great news for the summer holidays as it means the water is safe to swim in.

While Swindon has not been blessed with the seaside to make the most of the scorching weather, that doesn't mean locals can't enjoy some wonderful beach escapes nearby.
The beach in Brighton is a blue flag beach which is made up of mainly single at high tide, while at low tide it is flat and sandy. Running along the edge of the beach from Brighton Pier to Black Rock and Brighton Marina is the electric railway, created in 1883 and the world's oldest operating one of its kind.
It was first swim by Kathleen Thomas, 21, in 1927, followed two years later by Edith Parnell, 16, who remains the youngest person ever to have crossed it. In 2015 Jo McCready tried it.
Verdict: Clevedon is not short on good shops and schools, sporting opportunities, coastal walks and facilities, including a community hospital with a minor injuries unit. All of this, along good transport links, mean this coastal town's popularity is assured.

Layde Bay. Layde Bay is known as one of the 'prettiest beaches along the Somerset coast'. Its closest town of Clevedon heralds a beach which dogs are not permitted in summer, so Layde Bay is the best case scenario of a local alternative.

During the Waikato War the place was known as Te Wairoa, or Wairoa South, to avoid confusion with Wairoa in the north. In 1866 the name was changed to Clevedon. The name was chosen by C.W.Stephens, a settler from the Channel Islands, and the schoolmaster, Le Gally, a native of Clevedon in Somerset, England.
