Engineers Get Top Pay
Year after year, engineering jobs are paid the highest average starting salary. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) engineers have a median annual wage of $91,010 and the engineering field projects to have employment growth of nearly 140,000 new jobs over the next decade.Some engineering faculty claim that proportionately more women than men engineering graduates are extroverts, and that for this reason they tend to do better in landing good jobs – since most employers are looking for personality as well as technical ability.
PhD recipient rates from 1989 to 2008 were nearly identical to minority women's. According to the National Society of Professional Engineers in 2004, there were approximately 192,900 female engineers throughout the country, compared with over 1,515,000 men.
Studies show that only 14 percent of the civil engineering workforce is composed of women. About 40 percent of women who have engineering degrees never enter the workforce or drop out. So, why does this matter? Women represent over half of the U.S. population and bring unique perspectives to advancements in society.

From January to June 2017, athenahealth surveyed 18,000 physicians at 3,500 practices on its network, and determined that more than 60 percent of physicians under the age of 35 are female, while just under 40 percent are male.Of these women, approximately 1/3 of them were software engineers (62,900). Women were also employed in higher rates than men in environmental engineering (9% to 4%) and chemical engineering (7% to 4%).
