Daman is a very safe place to stay, my personal suggestion is to look for any private hotel for stay, incase you have a budget of around 1k to 1.5k stay in ant hotel close to dubai market which happens to be a good shopping place provided you are not from mumbai as you might get same kind of stuff there as well.
