Sandy Koufax appeared in four World Series. His ERA is 0.95, his WHIP is 0.825, and he has 61 strikeouts in 57 innings. He had a great fastball with a lot of movement, but it was his curve ball that made him so difficult to hit.
He won five straight NL ERA titles from 1962-66 and led the Dodgers to the NL pennant in 1963, 1965 and 1966, winning the World Series in 1963 and 1965. “He was the greatest pitcher of his time in baseball,†said writer Jimmy Cannon.
In a surprise move by manager Walter Alston, Koufax was selected for the final outing (over Drysdale) despite having only two days of rest. Once again Kaat, who had eighteen wins during the regular season, would be his opponent for the third time in the tournament.

He was born Sanford Braun, but took the name of his stepfather after his parents divorced and his mother remarried. In 2007, Koufax was drafted by the Modi'in Miracle of the Israel Baseball League at 71 years old as a tribute to the league's inaugural season.
