Convicted felons may not purchase or possess a firearms hunting license or a specialized hunting guide license unless they already have a permit to carry a firearm. Though there are rather ordinary specified legal hunting hours in Maine, there exist a couple of notable exceptions.

Deer tags ARE NOT available over the counter at point of sales vendors (Walmart, Dick's Sporting Goods, etc.). They are available over the counter at SCDNR offices located in Charleston, Clemson, West Columbia at the State Farmer's Market, Florence, and York.

A “cull” or “management” buck is one that is of inferior genetics or does not meet the standards of what an average deer should be in that herd, at a certain age. For some hunters it is a daily term, but for others they will never use it. Many indicate that it's common when managing for better quality deer.

Premium deer hunts (L series), one tag available in every wildlife management unit. Tag is good for any species of deer that's legal to hunt in that unit. Premium elk hunts (M series), one tag in all but three units.

Sunday Hunting is Illegal in Maine.
Maine has no law regarding unloaded firearms in vehicles. A person 21 years or older who is not otherwise prohibited from possessing a firearm may have a loaded handgun in the vehicle.
This bill establishes a coyote bounty permit. It establishes registration stations, tags and a bounty of $10 for each coyote registered.
