Night in the Woods Will Be Getting A Prequel Game. It appears the story of Mae from Night In The Woods is not totally finished as the devs announced a prequel today. But it's nice to know one of the best indie games of 2017 will be getting another game.
There's a murder and maybe ghosts, but that stuff isn't really the point of Night in the Woods. It isn't about a thrilling mystery. It's about banal existential horror. And it's a horror that literally hits close to home.

Be on Jonas' Good Side – Have him accompany you a lot and don't side with Ren when they fight. Choosing to stay neutral during their big argument in the Comm Tower is a safe bet, as you won't piss off either one of them.Afterparty, the next game from Oxenfree's developers, will be out in October. This hellish adventure releases on October 29.
If you're staying silent, there will be no way to save Clarissa, but you CANNOT leave through the red portal without saving her if you're being nice or mean.

Oxenfree is great! But it's not worth replaying. Over the past year, I've read lots of comparisons between Oxenfree – a shortish adventure game about five teens and their supernatural adventures on a Pacific Coast island – and Kentucky Route Zero. I agree with the conclusion of most of these comparisons.
But the setting, in all of its vast loneliness, elevates a spooky story to downright scary and stressful; it's not a horror game, more of an interactive thriller. Firewatch is a game about the quiet of the wilderness, silence, and the sounds that follow it. Firewatch is available February 9th on PC and PS4.

Oxenfree is a sweet story with just enough darkness on the edges to keep things interesting. It's a fantastic game, and one that sets a tremendous bar for Night School Studio and the upcoming 2016 class of games. To Oxenfree's credit, it kept me engaged the whole way through.
