The term gaps and gores refers to portions of land areas that do not conform to boundaries found in cadastre and other land surveys based upon imprecise measurements and other ambiguities of metes and bounds.
There are fourteen counties in the U.S. state of Vermont. These counties together contain 255 political units, or places, including 237 towns, 9 cities, 5 unincorporated areas, and 4 gores.
Gore is a triangular or tapered segment (narrow at the top and wider at the base) that is subtly inserted to extend the width from the waistline to the hem of a skirt. Imagine the triangular sections of an umbrella or a ship's sail; flared skirts can be made with two or more of these gores.
In old English law, a gore was a small, narrow strip of land. In some northeastern U.S. states (mainly northern New England), a gore (sometimes a land grant or purchase) remains as an unincorporated area of a county that is not part of any town, has limited self-government, and may or may not even be populated.
Posted in Land Titles. A “strip” is just what it sounds like: A narrow parcel of land. A”gore” is a strip in another form, such as a triangle or other odd-shaped parcel.
Vermont occupies an area of 24,905 km² (9,616 sq mi), making it the 45th-largest state, compared it is about one quarter the size of South Korea or Iceland. Compared with other US states, Vermont is about the size of New Jersey, but it would fit into Texas 28 times.
Take the tiny village of Evergreen, Vermont, for instance, the idyllic setting for the Hallmark film Christmas in Evergreen. While Evergreen is indeed a fictional town, its real-life filming location happens to be an equally charming village in British Columbia.
I loved the little town of Hopedale, Vermont and recognized it immediately as I've scene it before in Hallmark's Love in Paradise. In real life, the town is called Agassiz and it is located in British Columbia, about 75 miles east of Vancouver.
Vermont's nine cities are:
- Barre City (Washington County; 1895)
- Burlington (Chittenden County; 1865)
- Montpelier (Washington County; 1895)
- Newport City (Orleans County; 1918)
- Rutland City (Rutland County; 1893)
- St.
- South Burlington (Chittenden County; 1971)
- Vergennes (Addison County; 1788/1794)
Vermont offers no film production perks, while other regions have made theirs more tempting over the past decade. That explains why the streets of Langley, B.C., were featured in Moonlight in Vermont, and Agassiz, B.C., masqueraded as the fictitious Hopedale in Falling for Vermont.
It borders the
states of Massachusetts to the south, New Hampshire to the east, and New York to the west, and the Canadian province of Quebec to the north.
Vermont is the only
state in New England that does not border the Atlantic Ocean.
