Merredin airport was leased for the sum of one Australian Dollar with the state government banking that investment would follow. Although the aerodrome is leased by China Southern West Australian Flying College, the RFDS and private users still have access.
China's communist government could soon own an Australian airport after paying just $1 for a 100-year lease on the land. The state-owned China Southern Airlines partially owns Merredin Aerodrome, 260 kilometres east of Perth, and has control of the runways, hangars and the control tower.

Where it is worth to stop from Perth to Kalgoorlie:
- The Ettamogah Pub in Cunderdin.
- The Kellerberrin Hill Lookout.
- Lake Koorkoordine 6 km north of Southern Cross (great for camping or lunch break)
- Take a walk along Coolgardie's main street and check out its historical buildings.
- The Super Pit Lookout in Kalgoorlie-Boulder.
Kalgoorlie is almost 600 kilometres away from Perth. That's at least a six hour drive if you drive it straight. If that long car journey isn't for you, then there are regular flights linking Perth to Kalgoorlie.
West of Esperance
A short drive west of town are some other stunning beaches, and I'd argue just as good if not better than Lucky Bay, they're definitely more accessible. And the coastal views from the road are outstanding. If you do end up in Esperance, this drive is well worth it.Places, famous or infamous, for which Kalgoorlie is noted include its water pipeline, designed by C. Y. O'Connor and bringing in fresh water from Mundaring Weir near Perth, its Hay Street brothels, its two-up school, the goldfields railway loopline, the Kalgoorlie Town Hall, the Paddy Hannan statue/drinking fountain,
Most of Kalgoorlie-Boulder is perfectly ok to live but probably the most desirable areas are Hannans, Lamington and Somerville, with West Lamington, Piccadilly and most of South Kalgoorlie not far behind.
Kalgoorlie Climate. Being that Kalgoorlie Boulder is located on the edge of a desert, the summer months can get quite hot, with the average temperature being between 18 and 34 degrees.
