Akumal Bay is also very good snorkeling. For lunch, I receommend La Buena Vida, right on the water good food and drinks. I would say if you're looking for something different than Cancun that is laid back and very beautiful, then Akumal is worth a day trip :) 2.
Safety in AkumalAkumal's crime rate is very low! It's a small beach town. Most of the hotels in the area have a security at each entrance to ensure visitors feel safe. My advice would be to take the same precautions you would take back home.
