The biggest contributor to slow performance on DIRECTV Genie clients is the distance between the client and the DVR. If you have a lot of wasted cable between the wall and the client box, try to eliminate it. It might even be worth moving the client to a different wall to try to eliminate longer cable.
Press the reset button:
- On some DIRECTV receivers there is a red reset button located inside the access card door on the front panel.
- Unplug your receiver's power cord from the electrical outlet, wait for 15 seconds, and plug it back in.
- Press the Power button on the front panel of your receiver.
Log into the Genie Client application on each workstation. You will receive a message advising that your network version is older than your server version. Click Update.
Resetting your DIRECTV Genie and Genie Mini restores local channels. Unplug your receiver's power cord from the electrical outlet, wait 15 seconds, and plug it back in. Press the Power button on the front panel of your receiver. Wait for your receiver to reboot.
Try these tips:
- Turn off Internet-connected devices when you aren't using them.
- Sign in to use the Smart Home Manager app to check your device connection status.
- Clear your browser cache and cookies.
- Exit streaming apps after watching videos or listening to music.
- Restart devices regularly.
Seriously though, it does take some time to find the proper channel to tune, especially since DIRECTV is constantly changing their layout to accommodate temporary channels or maximize signal strength.
How Does Genie Mini Wireless Work? The DIRECTV wireless Genie uses radio signals, similar to a cellphone transmission except that the signals carry digital TV data instead of voice data.
Clearing a DirecTV Receiver Memory Cache
- Press the "Menu" button on your DirecTV remote control. Select "Parental, Fav's & Setup" and choose the "System Setup" option.
- Press the down-arrow key to scroll through the list of setup options to "Reset." Press the "Select" button to switch to the Reset screen.
There's a new way to clear out some of the cobwebs from the inside of the DVR and it's very easy to do. then press the red button. Then with “All” highlighted press {SELECT} again. The DVR should reboot by itself within a few seconds.
With a DIRECTV-brand remote, just press and hold the {PLAY} button (on the Genie Remote, this is the {PLAY/PAUSE} button. it takes about 2 seconds but slow motion will start automatically. When you are done with slow motion, press the button again and you will go back to regular playback.

- Connect the Wireless Genie Mini client to your TV using an HDMI cable.
- Set the TV to the input being used.
- Plug the power cord of the Wireless Genie Mini and the TV to a working outlet or a power surge protector.
- Power on the TV and the Wireless Genie Mini.

Actually, you don't get Netflix "ON" DirecTV. You subscribe to Netflix (about $9.00 per month, more or less) and you purchase a device to stream Netflix through. Once you have the ROKU or APPLETV device connected, you can stream SEVERAL "channels" and Netflix is one it you subscribe.
