There are eight levels to the taxonomy that progress from a cognitive to an affective domain. The levels are fluency, flexibility, originality, elaboration, risk taking, complexity, curiosity and imagination.
If you drop the basketball, the force of gravity pulls it down, and as the ball falls, its potential energy is converted to kinetic energy. This is because the basketball had an inelastic collision with the ground. After a few bounces, it stops bouncing completely.
Between the first and second bounces, the height can be expressed as h = 140 − 16(t − 6.49)2, 3.54 ≤ t < 9.45. The 6.49 is when the highest point is achieved (halfway between the two bounces), and the 9.45 seconds is derived from adding 3.54 seconds to the time between the first and second bounces.
Different types of ball are allowed for different types of surfaces. When dropped from a height of 100 inches (254 cm), the bounce must be 54–60 in (137–152 cm) for Type 1 balls, 53–58 in (135–147 cm) for Type 2 and Type 3 balls, and 48–53 in (122–135 cm) for High Altitude balls.
The ball is dropped from a height of 5 meters, bounces back up 0.65(5) or 3.25 meters, falls 3.25 meters, bounces back up 0.65(3.25) or 2.1125 meters, falls 2.1125 meters, and so on.
Geometric Series: Bouncing Ball — a Ball Bounces.
| Bounce | Ball Height |
|---|
| 1 | 0.7(16)=11.2 |
| 2 | 0.7(11.2)=7.84 |
| 3 | 0.7(7.84)=5.488 |
| 4 | 0.7(5.488)=3.8416 |
The relationship between drop height and bounce height is only linear for small drop heights. Once a ball reaches a certain height, the bounce height will begin to level off because the ball will reach its terminal velocity.
The tennis ball bounces higher because the relative speed when it bounces off the basketball is almost double that for when it hit the ground.
Answer: The ball will bounce 13.5 m at the third bounce.
The series of heights is infinite, so before stopping, the ball must bounce an infinite number of times. #1.
