Fogging occurs when you have little to no airflow to clear out the moisture on the inside of the helmet. Most full face helmets and all modular helmets allow you to lift up the visor or shield which clears the air. An open face helmet has no shield, something to consider. But goggles can fog so use anti-fog solution.
Cold air, wind chill and rain dramatically reduce the temperature of the inside surface of your helmet visor and your glasses, such that moisture in the air you exhale condenses on these surfaces causing them to mist up.
The pocket of air that is trapped in between the visors acts as an insulator for the inside temperatures in the motorcycle helmet. Efficient absorption properties combined with the double glazed like feature, the Pinlock visor insert is the most effective, durable and affordable anti-fog solution on the market.
If it's really soaked, set the helmet on something waterproof, and wad up a bath towel inside it to absorb the worst of the water. It may take a second treatment to get most of it. When it's improved to merely really damp, set it in a warm dry spot and aim an electric fan into it, and leave it alone until it's dry.
Windex is not an issue at all, it will not harm the lens or the finish on the helmet one bit. The issue is the cloth you use and wiping a dusty lens.
Arai recommends that you use a very soft, dry cloth to gently wipe it clean before clipping it back into the visor. John's tip: If you do use a wet cloth to clean your Pinlock, make sure it's a very soft microfibre, then leave it to dry overnight.
Most modern helmets feature tough clear-coat finishes, but you might as well top it off with a quick touch of some quality car wax. FACE SHIELD Never use anything but warm water, mild soap, and a soft cotton washcloth, and always clean the shield under lots of running water to prevent scratches.
Clean it with water and let it dry normally under the sun. If the inner lining and pads cannot be removed, then dip the entire helmet in a big bucket of foam created using baby shampoo. Allow the helmet to soak in for at least 15 to 20 minutes and then using your fingers remove the grime gently.
4) Now rinse the inner padding of the helmet under a tap of any source of water, then use a solution of water and shampoo to clean it. You have to rub the inner padding gently with your hands. You can use toothbrush and paintbrush to clean the air vents and other gaps on the outer shell.
Tips and tricks for preventing foggy glasses
- Use a nose clip. If your glasses are fogging while you're wearing a mask, it may be because your mask doesn't fit properly.
- Wash with soapy water.
- Spritz with antifog lens spray.
- Tuck in your mask.
- Secure your mask with skin-safe tape.
- Try antifog wipes.
