Make a deodorizer spray with some baking soda, essential oil (lavender, lemongrass) and water. Spray the bed daily. Some people spray the dog bed with Febreze®.
You should also wash the dog bed in the washing machine. Load the dog bed cover or the entire bed into a front-load washing machine and wash it in hot water to kill any insects and eggs that may be on the bed. Again,be sure to use a pet-safe laundry detergent to not irritate your dogs skin.
In most cases, it is recommended to wash pet bedding once every 1-2 weeks. If anybody in your home suffers with pet allergies, your pet sheds a lot, or he spends a lot of time outdoors, then you might want to wash the bedding more often.

If you or the dog are uncomfortable with the looks, smell or hygiene of the bed, then it should be replaced. Dog's will have two shedding seasons and will still shed some in between.

Sure, regular shampoo will do the job when you're out of dog shampoo, but you really shouldn't make a habit of using it. This makes human shampoo too acidic for dogs. As mentioned, a one off bath with human shampoo won't do a world of harm, but can cause damage over time.

- Add 1/2 cup of super washing soda.
- Add 1/4 cup of hydrogen peroxide.
