While the Common Application has over 900 member colleges, the Coalition app has a smaller member number – a little less than 200 – and each member college must meet criteria like affordable tuition, need-based aid, and a six-year graduation rate of 70% or higher.
MyCoalition is a set of free, online college-planning tools that empowers you to learn about, prepare for, and apply to colleges. Improving college access with MyCoalition is the mission of the Coalition for College.
For example, the trade union is a type of coalition which was formed in order to represent employees' wages, benefits, and working conditions. For example, in order to prevent gun violence and advocate gun control, several groups, unions, and nonprofit organizations banded to form the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence.
The Common App is better known of the two and is the app of choice for a larger number of colleges. The Common App was created in 1975. Established in 2015, the Coalition App is relatively new but is catching up in popularity. More and more colleges have started using it in recent years.

What is the Coalition? We're more than 150 top colleges and universities committed to improving access to higher education. Each of our member schools works to make college affordable and ensures students graduate on time. Most graduate students with no or low debt.
An online college fair, or virtual college fair, is a relatively recent phenomenon that consists of a collection of colleges and universities that communicate and provide information online during a specific timeframe.
The Coalition will recommend a limit of 500-550 words, but students can submit an essay much longer.
A: The Common App is a powerful tool, so use it!Even more helpful, you can fill out The Common Application once and send it to any of the 456 Common App schools. This is a huge time saver. Don't be afraid that colleges will pay less attention to The Common App than their own application—they won't.
Can You Reuse Your Common App or Coalition Application Essay? Yes. The very purpose of the Common App and the Coalition Application is that they save you time. You won't need to re-enter your personal information for every application — and you won't need to write separate essays, either.
The Coalition Application is A Newer ApplicationEach school commits to providing accessibility to lower-income students; public schools will show this by offering low-cost in-state tuition to residents of their state. Private universities will meet the full demonstrated need of students.
You may not create more than one account of each type. You may only create one (1) First Year account and one (1) Transfer account since the system will not allow duplicate accounts.
As long as the schools you apply to use both applications, no school is going to penalize you for using one over the other. If all of your schools accept the Common App and only some accept the Coalition App, it would make sense to go the Common App route.
The Common Application member colleges have stipulated that applicants may add up to 20 colleges. The college list cannot be expanded for any applicant. Once you submit an application, that college can no longer be removed from your list of colleges.
The Coalition Application is a new college application platform currently described by the popular media as a direct competitor to the Common Application. In essence, the Coalition's aim is to increase transparency and ease throughout the college application process.
More than a million students use the Common App each year, and since the staff isn't huge, it can take a while for them to get back to you if you have a technical issue.
Finally, the Coalition Application is accepted by the following highly selective colleges and universities:
- Five of the eight Ivy League schools (Columbia, Harvard, Princeton, UPenn, and Yale).
- Many other highly selective universities, including Stanford, UChicago, Caltech, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, and Johns Hopkins.
How do I request transcripts and other official documents?
- Enter the contact name of the person who can upload this official document (for example, your school counselor), and click or tap Continue.
- If the person is not yet your contact in the Coalition system, they will receive an invitation to join the Coalition site before they can respond to the request.
It is managed by the staff of a not-for-profit membership association (The Common Application, Inc.) and governed by a 18-member volunteer Board of Directors drawn from the ranks of college admission deans and secondary school college counselors.

What's the Locker, and what can I put in it?

- High school records, including your activities, awards, and important dates.
